Any Chevrolet mechanics on here? (2500HD 6.6)

Having 2 issues currently. One I believ to be expensive and will need a mechanic. The other I should be able to do myself
The bad. I developed a coolant leak recently. I was able to find where it’s comibg out between the block and transmission. A little research and it seems there is some plate there that can get torque cracks in it and leak coolant. Would make sense because it started around the same time I was dragging some heavy materials out on the farm that required some jerking and snatching. I’m curious if anyone has heard of this or experienced it and what kind of repair bill I’m looking at. The parts don’t seem to be expensive but it requires dropping the transmission so I’m anticipating mostly labor cost.
Second issue is HVAC. Can’t get air to blow anywhere except the dash vents. Initially thought the switch went out and bought the cluster off eBay prematurely. Apparently it’s a “blend door actuator”? Seems everything I read showed people having theirs stuck defrost only where mine is no defrost. Could that be the issue?
TIA

My blend door actuator went out this weekend.
It is up by the top of the gas pedal behind a piece of plastic duct. The duct comes off really easy, and you can manually turn the gear on the blend door to put the dampener in the position you want. Mines now stuck in defrost until I get the motivation to replace it.

Yea that’s kinda my plan as well.

Just make sure the selector is in the spot you want. When you get the damper where you want it, unplug the actuator and tie the damper in place. Otherwise it will try to cycle every time you turn the ignition on and get screwed up again.

PITA to reach a couple of screws for blend door actuator replacement in GMCs but doable with just a slight bit of cursing. Take the old one apart, clean the copper contacts in there and keep for a spare.

Replacement is only like $30. If I’m gonna do all that then I’ll just replace it

Go look at where it is. Unless you’re a 3 year old girl it’s gonna be a bitch to change. You gotta be a contortionist just to put your eyes on it.

First look up on the firewall for a leak at the heater outlets. Should be two heater hoses that are known to fail after normal wear and tear to be sure. Hopefully this is it because it is cheap and easy.
Crank it. Remove coolant jug cap, if you see bubbles then you are unfortunately looking at head gasket or warp. 6.6l common problem especially if back of block.

head gaskets were only common issue on 01 LB7 due to torque specs were too low from the factory.
coolant pressurization isn't always head gaskets on the 01-04 LB7's If injectors have been replaced prior it could be the injector cups leaking due to not being sealed properly during the injector replacement..
or if it is heavily modified and run at high boost the cups can actually be forced up and cause leakage. SoCal diesel makes billet injector hold downs just for this purpose
It's tough to nail down a cause without tear down.
ETA: OP never did state what year truck he has...that would help some.

Definitely could be the blend door. The primary culprit is actually easy to get to. Over the transmission hump under dash. You can probably see it if you lean in on the floor. Very easy to change.

Nailed it. $430 dollar repair
Also they want $370 to replace the actuator for the defrost. Told them id do it myself

I hope you have little girl hands. I tried for about 10 minutes to get to mine the other day before I said F it and tied it up in defrost

I 3yr old I may try and get him in there to do it

The blend door is a bitch, well worth paying $370 to get it done.

Go look for. I can barely fit my head down there far enough to see it
