Anyone use and air fryer to fry fish? Is so any suggestions? Do you need a batter made for an air fryer?

I haven't found a way to make the batter stick. However, it is fantastic for chicken wings.

We tried it a while back. We used the Louisiana Air Fryer fish seasoning. The fish turned out pretty damn good.

Never had any luck frying anything that had to be battered. But man is it great for reheating fried anything! IMHO it comes out better after reheating in an airfryer. Can get most of the grease out and crisp it good.

this. an air fryer is just a smaller and more convenient convection oven. excellent for reheating food and doing frozen stuff

Air fryer is a lie! It doesn't fry anything, gotta fry in grease. If you aren't using grease, there are many ways to prepare fish to eat better than an air "fryer".

The closest I’ve gotten to good was rubbing mustard on the fish then Panko instead of fish fry.

Reheated cracklings in it though is great.

Im still a rookie air frying, but I have figured out a few tips.

It should be obvious, but it wont melt pin bones (I have little kids that love fish) so I have to be extra careful cleaning. If cleaning is suspect, I just break out the fry daddy.

A binder layer like mustard or egg really comes through in air fryer, so be sure your crowd likes that flavor. You have to have SOME kind of binder and Im still working on that. I think the binder is most difficult thing about air fryer. Wet batter will never work so Yankees/beer batter wont be satisfied.

Panko does very well, so I usually mix 1/2 panko and 1/2 LA fish fry. My kids and wife like mustard so I use yellow mustard very lighlty, then the panko/LA fish fry dredge, then into preheated air fryer @ 380 deg usually 3 mins and flip for another 3 mins for total of 6 mins.

To be honest though, its almost as easy to break out the Fry Daddy. It will have much better flavor.

Dude don't be rude to your fish. Fry those fish in peanut oil or frying oil. Drain fish well in a colander, to help remove most of the water in them as possible. Fry at 350 degrees until golden brown.

An outside cooker, stainless steel pot with basket or nice sized cast iron pot will fry fish very well.[

Buy a good quality fish fry meal mix or make your own.

Fish Meal Recipe in my family for over 25 years. I never buy a fish fry mix. I make my own.

1 box iodized salt
1.5 oz black pepper
2 oz Accent Flavor Enhancer
2 oz garlic powder
2 oz cayenne pepper
2 oz chili powder
Blend all seasonings with 7 lbs yellow corn meal and 5 lbs yellow corn meal mix. This makes 12 lbs of fish fry seasoning blend.

Not trying to be that guy, but isn’t that like 1.5 lbs salt? Making your mix 1/10 salt Plus accent is MSG and salt. You sure of these measurements?

I haven't tried the mixes made specifically for the air fryer, but I used my regular batter and it came out dry, and like the batter wasn't cooked. I've heard of people spraying food with cooking spray or oil in a spray bottle before frying in the air fryer to make it crispier, but I haven't tried that either. Wings are awesome and it's the best way to reheat pizza.

I haven't specifically fried fish in ours yet but just about everything we've put in it, from chicken wings to fresh broccoli has turned out amazing. We've put whole chickens in there and they come out so damn moist. Anyone who says an air fryer will dry out food is either doing it wrong or hasn't really tried it. We've never dried out anything.

I am postive of those measurements. Remember its all mixed into 12lbs of cornmeal. Try it. You will never buy the packaged mixes again.

You have to use the air fryer batter. I add Panko and my trout cones out very good. I use mustard to bind. Ninja foodi

I have air fried fish, it works. Don't even think about trying shrimp. I've bolded the very important points.

For the fish, pat dry your fish, lightly dip in egg, drip off all excess, just enough to stick your fish fry. Coat well, but not excessively.

Make sure your basket is sprayed, and make sure you spray the fish with oil as well. That's the key. Don't over do it, but you need that oil to fry. The whole purpose of an air fryer isn't to not use oil, but to use less of it.

This all being said, I'll still choose to fry it over deep fry any day.

Have outside fryer, just wondering about the air fryer as it is only two us to eat now. I do not save the grease between fries.
