Looking for a used bay boat. 22-24 feet with at least a 250hp. Any suggestions on brands to look at? Any brands to stay away from? Looking to spend no more than 30k.

Get a used Pathfinder or Blackjack with Yamaha or Suzuki power and call it a day. These will be near the top of your price range but you can find good deals if you're willing to be patient.

Frontier also. Made by the same people who make blackjacks.

Its going to be hard to find a well kept BJ (or any 24' boat) for 30k max with a respectable amount of hours on a 250 or 300.

You can find a frontier with a 175 zuke or 200 yammy for 30k that is in good condition. I can vouch for the frontier

Blazer bay may be in your price and it is the old frontier (kenner) hull. Also look for a bluewave.

good deals will be popping up at the end of the summer so no telling what you will find. Be patient and ready to buy

More than 30k but it will give you an idea

This is the condition 30k will get you. 100hrs on a 2005 screams new power head or problems from being sitting up In your price range

Blazer bay - New condition but $$$

Frontier

Yup, when i was looking last year if i found a good condition boat less than 5 years old they wanted pretty much the new price so i went the new route and got exactly what i wanted
The price on 24' boats is outrageous these days

I bought a 24 ft 2010 champion last year. Motor was 2015 Yama 300 with 70 hours. Got it for under 40k but had to put new trolling motor on it. Glad I got the 24 ft even though its good bit more pricey. It's nice when my kids want to bring their friends to say sure, we got room

Good advice so far. I would add Key West to the list.

I would recommend budgeting for new electronics as well. In your price range you will be looking at boats at least 5 years old. Trolling motor and GPS technology has changed a lot in the last 5 years.

It's hard to give suggestions without knowing which bay system or estuaries you intend to run

You'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't give a look to a frontier 2104.

Will be tough if you want to get all that with that budget. The boat will have to be older than 10 years.

Had a friend who was looking for the same thing with a similar budget. He wanted 4 stroke power and nothing to old. He listened to my advice and found a nice 21 ft Nautic Star with a 150, plenty of options, and only a few years old. He just bought it for just over 30k. It's a fine boat.

I would recommend looking at 21 ft Nautic Stars and Frontiers. They are light enough for the 150 to push them and still big enough to ride well. Just my opinion.

I have a 2014 Sea Hunt BX24BR, bought it new. Let me tell you the hull rides out of site in slop. I question some of their suppliers they use but the hull design and layout is top notch. I've taken it 30 miles offshore and in 16" of water.

What's your problem with Nautic Star? What do you recommend for the OP?

Yeah, highly unlikely.
