Anything I should be looking for when shopping for a laser range finder and binoculars?

Had some offers pop up in my email and honestly, I don't know if I need the range finder but I definitely could use a good pair of binoculars.

Brands to avoid/prioritize?
Power?
Type?
Good type for stargazing?

I'm in Louisiana so we're not talking long distance viewing here, except for the super long range checking out the moon and other stuff from time to time.

Have a Leupold RX1000 that goes out to 1000 yds. Works like a champ. I bought on BF cabelas deal for $239.

TheY have a cheaper called Marksman 1000 model now. I think it’s on sale at cabelas for $189 right now.

Unless your going out west no need to spend mega $$$ on a rangefinder.

Natchez has the Sig Kilo 1000 for $129 right now. I was about the pull the trigger on the ~199 Vortex but went the opposite direction and for one for $38 on Amazon $61 - $25 coupon + tax). All of my needs are under 50 yards so I don't really need anything fancy. Should be here tomorrow we'll see if it actually works or not.

Whats your budget? Several companies make range finding binoculars now. Only have to keep up with 1 piece of equipment.

ETA: you're probably gonna be good to go with a set of 8x40 binos. Brand suggestions, specific models, etc... will be budget dependent.

I'll also add that you should plan to spend some money on a good bino harness. Makes a huge difference in comfort. I have this one from FHF Gear and love it. They also sell an accessory to attach a range finder.

Here's the link to the Rangefinder Pouch.

My bride bought me the Sig Kilo 3000 BDX's (10x42). I haven't used them in the woods yet but they should be nice for Wyoming this fall.

I've got a pair of 10 x 42 Nikon Monarch 5 binocs, they were under $300. They're much clearer than my cousin's $500 Leopolds. So much so, he ordered a pair.

On the rangefinder, just remember that water resistant & waterproof (IP67) are totally different specs.

Nikon is getting out of the rifle scope business, but you're gtg on their binocs & rangefinders.

I have a pair of Vortex Fury HD 5000’s
They are a bit expensive, but solid stuff. 10 power and range to 1500 yards. Unlike most rangefinders that generally can’t measure their advertised range, I find that the fury’s can easily meet 1500 yards and even sometimes beat it. Obviously you have to have a steady hold to get this performance.

Get a rangefinder that reads out in red. There have been plenty of times where i could see what i wanted to range through the rangefinder, but not be able to see the crosshairs and readout.

For binos I highly suggest you look at Maven's. I use the C.1 10x42 and they are amazing. Great warranty and the glass quality can't be matched for the price. Last year in Wyoming I was matching my hunting partners Swaro's consistently for much much cheaper. Great bang for the buck.

Buy the best glass you can afford. Nobody can offer you much help on narrowing the field without knowing your budget. With that said, for mid-level optics my vote would also go to the Maven C1. It's a great mid-level optic for the value.

Another Maven owner here. Seriously look into them. You can even demo them for 30 days risk free. Beat the brakes off my buddies leupold
