There is no way I could look grieving parents in the eye and refuse to bring back their child.

Of course, this is an imaginary situation, but hell yeah I'd give'em up. Besides, I got money. I'd could hire body guards and shite. My wife and kids can still have guns, just not me. I win!!!!

Well, I would love to talk to you about some things. I'm sure I have some questions coming my way that will be difficult to answer.

This thread was just meant to make us think outside the box a little. I really like some of the comments.

Same here. If I had the power, I could easily sacrifice. I have a soft spot for kids. Hard to imagine what a lot of parents are going through tonight.

I'm not giving up my guns to bring home a stranger. I feel sorry for everyone involved. I also feel sorry for every soldier that had died serving this country so we can have the liberties of free speech, religion, press, and to bear arms.'

Today was tragic. My heart goes out to all involved. Lets leave it at that.

So here's the tough question. If you could give up all your guns and never touch another one to bring just one of those babies home to its momma and daddy tonight, would you do it?

No. I would not. Even if those were mine that died. Hell especially not then.

The second amendment is too important to the future of the whole damn species, nothing is more important. The consequences are decades lost. Generations. We condemn the dark ages for that.

What happened today was terrible but let's wait till the emotions die down before we have this conversation. My answer is no. Not a chance. Many more than 22 people have died in the past for me to keep my right to bear arms. Was their sacrifice for nothing?

Do we give up box cutters so that terrorists can't use them to fly planes into buildings?

Do we give up farming because the ammonium nitrate fertilizer that's used on farms was the same thing McVeigh used to kill and/or injure hundreds in Oklahoma?

I can understand your question as it pertains to you and your specific situation and I also am DEEPLY saddened by what happened today. I don't think I've hugged my 3 yr old son harder than I did last night, but where will it end?

When will America, as a whole, decide to stop allowing the government to make decisions for them? Govt said you can't spank your children or you'll get arrested. Govt said you can't paddle them in school anymore. Govt said we can't have God in our public schools. Govt, Govt, Govt...

They are going to use this as another feather in their hat to try to take away your rights. If we don't say "NO" loud and clear, this will be the most oppressed and unprotected country in the world. You think crime is bad now? Imagine how it would be when the criminals know that you won't have a gun to shoot back at them. Cause guess what? They'll have guns. Many of them.

I have a six and four year old. My heart aches for those families in CT. I would give anything to bring them back if something happed to them including my life. On the otherhand, my kids are alive and well this morning and I would rather protect them than try to bring them back. That goes for all children. So no I wouldn't give up my guns in this current situation. As selfish as it sounds I'd rather protect mine.

That doesn't sound selfish at all to me. There's no way I would give up that right. It would be a slap in the face to all the great men and women that have fought for us for many years, endured life changing catastrophic injuries or death. No way I'm giving that up.

I think I get the point of your thread and I know you are not advocating increases gun control. I think we all ask ourselves, or should what is the inherent value of a human life and is that value less based on age, potential, or acquaintance. I think this thread was a great discussion on the value of human life, age bias in determining that value, parental instinct, empathy, and individual's ( comprised of an obviously gun centric group) value of the right to bear arms.

Although I did not have time to full reply earlier the short point I made holds. There is a part of me that feels selfish, ashamed, and afraid for answering that way. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made men and the lesser of two evils must be chosen.

For those that have said they would agree if they felt the need for protection or lived in more dangerous place, I remind you that the town ravaged this week was awarded the safest town in America to live in.

I'm sure you've seen parents lose a child just like I have.

Sadly yes and it is never easy.
