No dude. That's not what I'm asking and not at all what I'm saying. I'm just asking if you could, would you? Individual basis?

I was on board with the first couple of post...then I read BP's post. He makes a very good point.

I don't have children, but I can't imagine sacrificing protection of my own to save someone I dont know. I feel selfish and horrible saying that but I wouldn't.

It's complex to say the very very least.

This is the only correct answer for me. Many people will see it differently though.

My sons adopted. Someone I didn't know made a tough decision and gave him to my wife and I. I know it's not the same thing.

The correct answer is remove your emotions and think about the good of society as a whole. If guns didnt exist would people have died today? Yes. Could possibly more have died? Yes. Does losing someone you love suck? Yes. Badly. But this is life and a parents goal is to prepare their children to take own responsibilities of life and make lthe world better for their children. Will removing guns do this? No.

Think about mexico where the drug lords and illegals run the show. They have these mass murders everyday. The people of those villages dont have guns, they have to stand there time and time again and watch loved oned get mowed down or beheaded. What stops that from happening here when we forfeit our rights?

I guess one thing that's bothered me all day is that never as a child did I ever feel unsafe. I have always had an idealistic view of my ability to protect my family because of that. I was watching this shite unfold today and just realized that no matter how much I love and protect him, this world is cruel and unforgiving. I just can't imagine.....

That's how I see it though. Reactions to this heinous act are essentially letting evil triumph.

You can't stop crazy.

The old saying goes: "God, family, country." I feel horrible about today's tragedy and wish there were something I could do to go back and change it. That being said, family has to come before all the other people in the world combined. Without guns, I have no way to protect them and if you can't protect your family, does the rest really matter?

And finally a quality/thought provoking thread about this topic. I was worn out by all people coming from the OT and Political Board coming over to "our" board. (Sorry for taking ownership)

There were some great points made. BP suggested that he wouldn't do it because he didn't wanna give up his right to protect his family. Thats cool and I truly respect that. Don't agree, but that's because I have never felt so endangered that I needed a weapon. Who knows. Maybe my thought would/will change if circumstances dictated otherwise.

All I know is that I have been a freaking wreck today. Went and visited my kids and have been grieving for those families all day long. As a husband of a teacher and father of two children that age, I just can't imagine what those families are feeling this evening.

All I can say is that the streets of heaven are too crowded tonight. God bless their innocent souls!

In a vacuum, just my gun for a child's life...absolutely...without hesitation. I live in a very safe area and only recently bought my gun for protection/to go shooting (more so because I had some extra money lying around). I don't feel significantly safer with it than I did before, so yeah I'd give it up pretty quick to bring a little girl or boy home.

In a heartbeat. I don't know any caring, feeling human who wouldn't. It's an impossibility though, so....

Would I be able to build a robot that shoots things for me?

That is a pretty damn tough call. I don't trust anyone as much as myself to take care of me and my family to give away my guns though
