94 Honda FourTrax 300 in great shape but.....

A friend bought this great looking FourTrax with new rims and tires, new wiring harness, new stator, new ignition module, new battery, new solenoid, great plastics, new plug wire and coil, etc. CDI box is still original. He paid $500.
Problem is whenever you connect the battery to the positive terminal the engine turns over and has no spark. We disconnected the ignition switch, cdi box, solenoid, starter/kill switch and connect the battery and it still turns the engine over. We traced every wire and every connection seems right.
Certainly perplexed on this. Could it be the starter is somehow always engaged?
Ground somewhere?
Thanks for any input. Friend is 82 and likes to piddle and bought it thinking he could fix it for teenage grandkids.

So you are saying it turns over as soon as you connect the battery? Does it do it with it in gear?

Sounds like a bad start button or solenoid.

The starter engaging when battery connected problem.
1- the solenoid is not wired right
2- the solenoid is stuck and bad even though it is new
3- the wiring is shorted
4- the starter switch is stuck or shorted
Based on the # of new parts fired from the parts cannon. I would lean toward it being 1 or 3.
Does the starter engage when the battery is connected with no key and the ignition switch in the off position?
The no spark is probably a different issue.
I have the 1988-94 Honda Fourtrax Service manual in PDF format if you need it.

So basically when you hook up the battery it's doing the same thing that would happen if you jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver. You have the wiring from the battery to solenoid to starter wrong or one of those wires is shorting to ground.
Assuming the solenoid is working

Solenoid is stuck. I don't see what else it could be unless you have it wired some kind of crazy way.

Solenoid is stuck or they landed both positive wires on the same side of the solenoid. Very easy fix

See if the solenoid is getting 12volts on the coil. If it isn't, then the contacts on the solenoid are welded together or the solenoid is not wired properly.

Will check these suggestions tmo and come back here. I’ll run by his house and fiddle with the wires and use a tester.
