I am currently gathering hardware to plant and scape my new 75 gallon aquarium and was wondering if anyone on here would be interested in following along the journey if I posted pics and updates?

I know it’s not really an “outdoor” activity but I figured this would be the best bet as far as boards on this site go.

So yeah, let me know if anyone would be interested in this.

Update: Completed image on page 3.

I had a planted 75 with CO2 last year before I moved. Got rid of that setup and now have an acrylic 125 with texas holey rock and African cichlids in my basement.

I have a 90gallon saltwater reef tank that was going pretty strong for a few years. Have definitely neglected it the past year though.

Maybe watching this thread will motivate me to get it back in shape

That tank looks awesome, one day I might do some shell dwellers but this tank will hopefully revolve around blue rams.

I currently have a planted 29 gallon and started to look for a bigger tank around October of 2021. I originally wanted a 125 but the 75 was so much more affordable when you factor in the filtration and the cost of scaping 2 extra feet of tank.

I am glad that a few people are interested and I will make a post in the next few days about the plan and what I have collected.

I will try to do another post in a week or 2 to update what preparations I am doing. (sink wood, painting the back of the tank, etc.)

I plan to do the actual build on Father's day weekend so that will be the biggest update.

A few weeks after that I will do a stocking post to show how it looks with all the fish in it and update yall on any issues that arose as starting a new tank rarely goes exactly as planned.

If yall have any suggestions or critiques on anything I post, feel free to let me know.

I used the CO2 Art pro-se kit for my 75. Had a lot of dwarf grass and a school of 80 neon tetras at one point that was awesome to watch. I'll see if I can find a pic of it.

I used plastidip on the backside of that tank too to paint it.

Here it was right after initial planting

A large part of this for me is upgrading tanks under my budget. I gave myself a $1,500 budget and it looks like I may be able to do it all for less than $1,200. The tank will be a low tech planted aquarium for blue rams.

I am upgrading from this:

To this 75G tank:

I bought the tank in December when it went on Holiday sale for about $330. I slowly accumulated the other hardscape over time, buying one or two things every time I got paid.

The hardware:

I have 5 chunks of petrified wood (only 3 pictured here) that my FIL gave me from when he used to keep fish. I will use most of them to make a rock/wood cave in one corner. I also purchased a bunch of wood on Amazon and I will work the pieces together to make a larger structure (I'll post a pic below). I have 2 150w budget heaters that came with digital thermometers. I have a 40 pack of root tabs for plant nourishment. I also have 8 9x5 filter media bags that I will fill with the gravel from my 29G to give the scape height in the back (gives the scape more depth) and to bring over a lot of beneficial bacteria. I also have a Sun Sun cannister filter that came with a decent amount of media. From bottom to top I will have coarse mesh in the bottom compartment, medium coarse mesh in the second compartment, fine mesh with bio balls in the second compartment, and more fine mesh with bio rings in the fourth and final compartment. I am not doing any carbon or anything like that because the plants will need the nutrients in the water.

Here is the wood structure:

And here is how I will align the media bags in the back of the tank. I will put the other 4 bags on the opposite side mirroring this picture.

The stocking list:

Currently in my 29G:
2 peacock gudgeon
4 neon tertra
3 panda corys
3 Endlers
50ish neocardina shrimp

I will be moving all the fish over to the new tank because I don't want to get rid of them and I also don't want multiple tanks. The shrimp might get eaten in the tank but I am fine with that.

New Fish:
3 Blue Rams (1M, 2F)
3 Bolivian Rams (1M, 2F)
1-2 Mexican (or Cajun) dwarf crawfish
20 Rummynose tetra
2 Pearl Gouramis
3 Panda Garas
10 Pygmy Corys
1-2 Albino Bristlenose Plecos

This is just a preliminary list and I most likely won't get all of these fish. The only ones that are definite are from the Pearl Gouramis and above. And even those aren't set in stone as I may only do 10 Rummynose or 2 of each ram. I also may do gold rams or black rams instead of Bolivian rams. I feel like the panda garas and the Plecos are and either/or thing. I don't think I will get both.

Nice man should be nice. I’d start boiling/soaking the wood now. That piece of wood I had in my tank kept staining the water for damn near a year.

Anyone who posts pics regularly have any idea?
