6.5 grendal vs 6.8 spc vs 6.5 Creedmoor

Looking into buying one of these with the main purpose being a deer hunting gun for my 6yr old. Most shots we take are under 200 yards. I do not reload. Which one of these has the lightest recoil possible in a deer hunting load. Thanks in advance.

How big is he?
6.5 Grendel with a brake would be my choice.
6.8 would be fine as well.
6.5 creedmoor is a step above those two, with a brake and a bigger kid would probably be fine though.

I'm thinking it will be the 6.8, however all will be mild. My son started shooting his .308 at age 7 and stacked up a bunch with it in the early years. He had moved up from a .223. Just give him plenty of practice time with a scoped .22. I'm not sure I'd even let him shoot the big rifle until a deer steps out. He'll never feel the recoil.

Definitely, if he does a bigger caliber.

6.5 creed would be the way to go if the boy is fit for it as stated above. The Creed ammo is becoming more & more readily available, I? would take this into consideration since you don’t reload.

Agree. I'd go with the Creedmoor. If he can't handle that, he might just be too young. Mine went 2 for 2 at 6 years old with a .223, but I really don't like it for deer hunting.

6.5 creed would have the most recoil out of those 3.
6.5 grendel had factory hunting ammo available, really the only issue is finding a rifle. Would have to find one of the Howa rifles in 6.5 grendel for a bolt gun or use an AR.

Leaning towards an AR. Im thinking 6.8 might be the choice for right now. He’s 50lbs and ain’t scared of nothing. Been shooting a 22 cricket for a few months and is pretty darn good with it. He’s dying to kill a deer now. I know a 223 will kill a deer easily but our place is thick as you can imagine so I’d rather something with more knockdown.

Lookup the .224 Valkyrie.
New big thing from Federal for the AR platform. Stays supersonic out to 1,300 yards.
They say a box of 20 will be $10.99

The 6.8 and 6.5 grendel are very close out to 300yds. After that the grendel shines.
The 6.5 cm is a different ballgame.
My son killed his deer with a 6.8 spc dropped right there. Used 110g Barnes TSX.

I would go Grendel. You can shoot hornady 123 grains out of it. It has very very mild recoil. I don't think a creedmoor has much kick to it but I remember being 10 and being scared to death of a 243 and the creedmoor kicks harder than a 243. The Grendel is more than capable of killing any deer. My Grendel will be in the woods tomorrow. Mine is an AR but CZ makes a nice bolt gun in Grendel.

I’m going with the Grendel on an AR platform. That at he can go from shooting a .223 to the 6.5 Grendel with the same lower.

See if you can run down Propagandalf, he’s a regular on here. He can build you a Grendel upper - I received my Grendel upper from him yesterday.

Good choice. You won't be disappointed. My Grendel is a straight beast. Only thing it needs is a good trigger which I'll be ordering from geissele tomorrow when they go on sale.

Judge I talked to him on here and will visit him when I’m ready. My guy is only 2 so I have some time to slowly build it.

As already mentioned, the 6.5 CM is the most powerful and is in a different category than the other 2. Unfortunately, I don't believe there's any reduced recoil available for the CM. 6 y/o is kinda young and, depending on the kid, may be too young for the CM; everyone responds differently to recoil, from kids to adults.
If you're going on an AR platform that makes the choice much easier. I'd go w/ the 6.5 Grendel. You can look up the formula and crunch the numbers, but calculated recoil should be pretty similar for the two. I don't have any personal hunting experience w/ the 6.8, but I have killed a bunch of big game w/ a 6.5 JDJ T/C Contender handgun and it's basically a ballistic twin to the Grendel. I have full confidence in 6.5 mm 120 gr Speer/Sierra spire point and 120 gr Ballistic Tip bullets. The 130 gr AccuBond should also be good. The Grendel is basically what the CM reduced load would be if available. If choosing between the SPC and the Grendel, I'd choose the Grendel.

I’m a 33 y/o man and i want a 6.5 grendel ar to hunt.
Main reason is the plinking ammo is so cheap that i can use the gun for everything

I'm 25 and I have one. I don't know what age has to do with it, they're badass guns for all shooters. And yeah the wolf ammo is cheap for plinking and it's pretty accurate. My buddy is borrowing mine tomorrow to bring deer hunting. I'll have my creedmoor only because my scope is much better on my creedmoor.
