Looks clean. How many miles? 4wd? I would probably drive it even if more soccer moms are in 4 runners now a days.

Son has 250,000 on his 4Runner. It’s bulletproof.

I had a 03, amazing vehicle, no issues whatsoever. Was a fool for selling it, but got an offer that was too good to pass up.
I would buy another in a heartbeat. Mine had the V8.

Check to make sure o2 sensors don't have spark plug non foulers on them. Check for the timing belt and water pump. Check the radiator and look for old coolant.
3rd gens have a few things that will nickel and dime you.
Do your maintenance and they will last forever.

As another reader has said...check timing belt and water pump to see if they've been changed out. Also check out all the power steering lines for leaks...they are a pain due to the length of them (and not cheap).
If 4WD see if the 4WD actuator on the tail end of the transmission is leaking. Once it's leaking..there's no stopping it other than to get a new one. It's not cheap. The reason it leaks is somewhat due to the seal design. I think the next Gen 4Runner changed it up.
We had an 03 V8 SR5 4WD version that had over 170K miles on it and until totaled ran great with the exception of the radiator developing a hole, power steering lines developing leaks (metal fatigue) and the 4WD actuator. Dashboard was replaced under recall as well due to cracking.

What everyone else has said, and I'll add to look in the radiator for signs of the "strawberry milkshake". Transmission cooler is inside the radiator. They can bust and fill your cooling system with transmission fluid. You're almost guaranteed to have problems from here out if that has happened. If it's good and you buy it, I recommend adding an aftermarket external trans cooler and bypass the stock one.

I have the same vehicle, currently 108K on the mileage
I have a 15 YO and it will be his, but the damn wife insists that it is junk. Thinking about trading her in for something practical for me. TRUCK

My 1998 4runner did well over 200K
Found a 2002 with 91K and now have 130K, still going strong daily driver.
Solid Vehicles. 4runner Great resource!
Has everything about pink milkshake and running your own external transmission cooler, but not 100% necessary unless your are towing heavy and often. Still not a bad Idea to get a new radiator as preventative maintenance.
The 3.4 is a non-interference motor, so while an up-to-date timing belt is great, if it breaks you just need a tow and replacement. You don't have to worry about the valve and piston colliding when camshaft stops after a TB break.
Routine maintenance and check the link above for great diy stuff.
Does this one have the supercharger or just the decorative hood scoop?

I have a 2005 with 175k miles. My wife has a 2016, but prior to that, she had a 1997 with 300k miles on it. Sold it to a high school kid for $3,000 and its still on the road today. Can't beat a 4Runner, IMO.

My brother in law got rid of a 2001 last summer. I had a blown gasket in my Jeep and drove the 4Runner for a week while the Jeep was in the shop. It had around 240k Miles on it. Routine maintenance and some body work from a minor fender bender is all they ever did to it. Bought it used in 2007 and he drove it 10 years.

Provided your motor has never been into and they decked the heads.
Happened to me
Non founders on the rear o2s aren't a huge issue, but I prefer to be the one to put them there.

i had a Tacoma with the 3.4. changed the breaks, starter, plugs while i had it. it was alot of fun was very dependable. i should have never sold that truck, it was a base model extended cab 4x4.

Do it. Those are the GOAT 4runners.

The 3.4 is a little under powered,....
