Yea but will a .40 really knock someone off their feet that much more than a 9mm?
I feel like this argument is akin to arguing deer hunting calibers, and people bring all kind of small details and differences in to argue one caliber over the other, long distances, etc., when in reality they're just gonna use it to shoot at deer 100 yds and in and either one will do the same shite.
real question, can one tell the difference with a 9mm and .40 by the gun shot sound? You can just yell out to the intruder "I got my FORTY YOU MOTHER frickER" and he wouldn't know "Oh its just a 9mm, i'm safe"

clearly .243-08 due to cost and availability of ammo.
eta: and stopping power, exit wound size and blood trail.

obviously a 9mm will get the job done. If you can accurately shoot a larger caliber though, why not go with that?
Hell, some of the baddest looking pistols are .22 caliber

Senseibuddy has taken Dawg23's CC class. So have I. Everything he is saying is true. We are all taught by the movies that handguns will blow you back when hit by them. He showed us multiple videos to prove this isn't true.
He had one where a guy shot himself point blank in the chest with a .44 while wearing armor and he barely flinched.
In another, a guy balanced on one foot and was shot with a .308 rifle point blank. Again, it didn't knock him down.
Not saying the bullets don't do damage, but none of them have "knockdown" power.
We have been taught this by the movies.

It's physics. If a bullet could knock you down the person firing the gun would have to be knocked down equally as hard when fired.
Actually harder, since the bullet is penetrating and all but let's just keep it simple

Wrongggggggggggg
The mass of the gun detracts from the recoil

For most people that's the 9mm, strictly because the low ammo cost will encourage them to shoot alot and become proficient with the gun they have.
well said, imo.
