Anyone think its a bad idea? As in have you ruined the adapter?

It's not the best idea, that's for sure.

I mean, they do have those torque sticks that function as an adapter and those don't cause serious problems, so I may just be risk averse. In my opinion, the best practice is to use 3/8" IMPACT sockets on a 3/8" impact wrench and 1/2" IMPACT sockets on a 1/2" impact wrench and just not futz around with alternative tooling.
Just my $0.02.

You'll break the fastener before tearing up the adapter, particularly impact-rated ones. Not supposed to run hand socket wrench accessories on impact tools but that's why there's Harbor Freight and I have no problem abusing a cheap accessory item like that if it means getting a project finished.

I mean, are you putting together a kids toy, or are you driving 24" lag screws?

Spray some flex seal on it after assembly. If cracks form it will hold them together
