Been wanting to get one for a while and finally decided to instead of buying a whole new gun. You guys have any particular recommendations or have suggestions for best bang for the buck?

Thanks

What's wrong with buying another gun? Do you not have a .22LR?
Seems like the conversion Kits that I saw were pretty expensive. You can buy a SS marlin model 60 for about 150 bucks(probably less) and they shoot lights out.

If you want to stick with an AR15 it is better to get a dedicated upper than to try a conversion kit. I'd still prefer a regular .22 though

I was thinking more along the lines of bug out gun so I wouldn’t need/have to carry 2 rifles.

22lr out of an AR barrel are pie plate accurate at 25 yards. Wrong twist and barrel too large in diameter. Dedicated upper with a proper 22lr barrel is your best bet unless you just want a way to turn money into noise.

Saw a stainless model 60 on sale at Walmart a while back for 139 bucks, it even had the cheap little stainless scope on it.
I can buy them around here, used but good condition, for 125 bucks all day.
That microgroove barrel is for real.

I’ve seen videos with very tight groupings, depending on the ammo, at 50 yards

Then go buy what was in that video. You've been given solid advice in this thread.

My Marlin model 60 with a 50 dollar Tasco scope, will cloverleaf at 50 yards, hold 3" groups at 100 yards all day long. That's with the agulla ammo in the yellow box.
