It's on. I just had a nice male at the feeder. It's slightly early but not by much. Last year the first one was on March 1. This is coastal Florida Panhandle so I'm in a good spot for early ones but it won't be long for the rest of you, so get the feeders out.

BTW - yesterday I had my first purple martin and first swallow-tailed kite. Migration is starting to trickle in.

I have martins at my old house, but not at my new one.

I was cleaning feeders yesterday.

ETA: I've been working 18 on/10 off out of state, and plan on taking a feeder with me next trip to hang where I stay on the job. Their migration starts in March as well. I hope to get some pics of some western species to share with y'all.

I'd like to see that. We've got one species in the east. Well, maybe 4 or 5 if you look really hard, and in the winter. The west has something like 13 species. About half are pretty tough. Southeast Arizona is great for them, connected by mountains to Mexico and countries further south.

Is there any special trick to attracting them? Buy a handful of feeders and let it roll
?

I’m in BR

It helps to have more than one feeder, and having flowers in the yard helps too. Aside from that a lot of it is just the luck of the location. There are more away from the cities. When I lived in Baton Rouge they were fairly scarce. Then I moved out to rural woods and had tons of them.

guess its time to put my Martin house back up.

saw a Bluebird in my barn this morning. Mixed emotions on that pretty little sucker. Not sure I want him competing with my martins.

Yea Hummingbirds are around most of the winter. Had as many as a dozen Christmas week and up into January. Kinda norm now for SWLA to have them year around.

DOLLAR TREE HAS FEEDERS FOR $1.00 NOT FANCY, JUST PLASTIC, BUT THE HUMMERS DON'T CARE. FOOD: 4 CUPS WATER TO 1 CUP SUGAR ON A QUICK BOIL THEN COOL. DON'T LET THE FEEDERS GO MORE THAN 5 DAYS WITHOUT FOOD CHANGE DURING SUMMER. YOU'LL GET EM!

Just put mine out as well, probably a little early but what the heck. I am in Mandeville, if you would, let me know when you have a sighting, I will reciprocate. Just love the little rascals.

I am also in Mandeville. We were basically overrun by hummingbirds last year. Need to wash and put my feeders out today.

Ours got hit in Colorado this weekend. I thought we were really early last year so I didn’t post anything, but they are definitely here this year.
