One thing that concerns me about body repair costs is their extensive use of rivets and adhesive

It would seem like removing and replacing body panels would be more labor intensive

It's going to be very anti-cheap to repair.

I don't see how it was worth 700 pounds for the customer.

Well, it's progress

It may not be the perfect solution but 10-15% of weight reduction is pretty significant

With aluminum your more likely to replace the panel vs repair a dent/crease. So, labor might go down bc body work won't be as extensive...but the cost per panel is going to go up. Repair costs will either be a wash or be more expensive...they will not be cheaper.

good info here

First time I have seen these numbers quoted:

quote:

In EPA tests, the most fuel-efficient 2015 F-150 scores 19 mpg in city driving and 26 mpg on the highway, versus 16 and 22 mpg for last year’s efficiency leader. That’s a 22-percent improvement in combined mileage and there’s more to come

That's something, but after seeing that the Raptor is getting a 10 speed (ha!) I'm either 1) getting a frickin' Raptor because I'm a bawse or 2) waiting for that transmission to make it into the Lariats.

THIS C/D review has some interesting numbers.
Observed fuel economy: 16MPG - not great, not terrible.
0-60: 5.6 seconds (damn!).

I can appreciate the performance but not a fan of the style

I can't believe the 3.5 ecoboost tows over 12k lbs... My camper I think is about 11k, prolly would be pushing truck pretty good

Just my personal opinion, if you need to tow more than 9000 - 10,000 lbs with any sort of regularity, step up into a 3/4 ton.

You would run out of payload, GVAR and GVWR before ever coming close to that number - unless you had the max tow and HD payload packages and then you might as well have a F250. People see the "tow capacity" and are misinformed on what they can actually/legally tow

Agree, my 2013 Eco will tow but if I towed heavy fairly routine I would jump into a 3/4 ton. Plus mpg on Eco towing a load will be cut to almost half

These guys are all chasing weight gains and multi-speed transmissions b/c of CAFE.

They sell a ton of trucks so if they can knock 2-4 MPG off their corporate average, they'll do it.

That's what trailer brakes are for.

It does suck.

I guess the only positive is that it has helped pushed the engineering envelope.
It has also pushed the cost up.

With enough money and manpower you can do whatever you want.
