re: $130 million approved for Maurepas Swamp river diversion project today
I believe you are correct. It was planned to be a federally funded project under the WRDA, but I do not see it on the 2020 bill.

takes forever to get anything done...swamp will be half dead before they move the first shovel full. It is a shame.

The amount of red tape and/or paperwork the state requires is beyond mind numbingly ridiculous.

We (my job) were hired to designed a new 5 slip boat house for LDWLF in Akers across from Middendorfs back in 2009 that Katrina had destroyed. Two weeks ago I just finished a small revision because they failed to build the bulkhead according to the plans so the boathouse had to be altered. It has taken the state 11 years to move forward with this project and the funds were available back when we originally started.

It really was a very simple project that had to be over designed because government funded. I bet we had less than 40 hrs in design/drawing/engineering and close to 90 hrs in paperwork.

I hope the swamp can revitalize itself when this project finally gets going.

So it's only going to be open 6 months/year. I'm guessing when the Mississippi is high (Spring?). Will this affect those contributing rivers when they're high?

Common sense says it will close anytime there is a high water situation on the amite. We will see if they have any. I am optimistic, actually that it will close when needed to close.

The problem is they own too much.
