I know right...problems with a chevy??

Anyways...I bought this truck used about 2 years ago. At some point my gas gauge stopped working correctly and I ran out of gas a few times. So, I started counting mileage and eventually replaced the entire fuel sending unit. I bought the part off of ebay ($150) which I'm sure was a reconditioned part but it's cheaper than $300-$400 from an auto parts store. It fixed the problem but left me with a check engine light on which reads as a large EVAP leak. Well, now my gas gauge has screwed up again. It has been about a year since I replaced the sending unit. Should I just go ahead with changing the unit again or is there some underlying probelm screwing my fuel sending unit up? Are these known for crapping out?

Same thing happened to me in my 05 GMC. It was currently under warranty when it happen so I brought it in. There was a recall due to the whole cluster not working properly. My advice is to bring it to a dealer and be done with it.

Very much so. 05-08 had some real shitty gauge clusters. They blow up regularly.

That may not be your only problem though. You may have to take it to a dealer and get it hooked up to a computer to figure out what is and isn't working.

Sounds like the sending unit is gone again. The GM cluster problems often only dealt with the speedo and Tach not working.
As far as the Evaporative emissions problem, those can be a real bitch to hunt down and often needs a smoke machine to pinpoint where the leak is.
Often times it's the gas cap not sealing or you're filling the truck with the engine running which will cause this code to be set also.

So.... the mighty chevy/GMC platforms are flawed too....

Just to be contrary ... You should have bought a Dodge.

I've had the EVAP leak on 2 different Chevy's (06 Silverado & 05 Colorado). Both times it was the evaporator vent valve that was stuck in the open position. It was a cheap fix ($100 for the new valve). I changed it myself on the Colorado but the bed had to be removed for the silverado so i paid to have it done. My boss had the same problem with his 05 GMC

the evap vent valve or canister purge valve is definately a possibility, but without a scan tool it's impossible to tell without just becoming a parts changer.
