On to the High Bar
Paul Juda
Score: 13.333
Asher Hong
Score: 12.600
Brody Malone, comes off the bar, probably means he will not be in the event final for this event and he is one of the best guys in the world on this event, and he comes off again. Pretty big development.
Score: 12.233
Fred Richard, great routine
Score: 14.166

Rotation 6, Floor
Paul Juda leads things off again, and he may be into the all-around final, especially with Malone's scores taking a hit due to coming off the pommel horse and then coming off the high bar twice. Malone can still be a huge player in the team final, but his individual event aspirations really took a hit. This sport has razor thin margins and it takes very little to knock you off.
Score: 13.966
Asher Hong
Score: 14.100
Brody Malone, some mistakes again, feel bad for this guy. Came back from a pretty severe injury, makes it to the Olympics, big hopes for a lot of stuff, but some mistakes today. Team will need him to rebound for Team Final.
Score: 12.666
Fred Richard
Score: 13.833

And that's qualifications for the men. Looks like they get to the Team Final.

Top two scorers for US today are Fred Richard and Paul Juda. Both may be in the all-around final.

Nedoroscik had a score on pommel horse that was better than the defending Olympic champion, so that is a bright spot today.

Just finished watching.

Brutal brutal day for Brody. Feel for him. Was off all day. Need him to get it done for the team finals.

He was so good at Nationals, Fred beat him at Trials where he was still good, but today it felt like all the nerves caught up to him.

His interview after seemed to indicate nerves got to him.

Sucks to see it foe him. Hopefully he can pull it together for the team finals though. The mind is a fickle beast.

I watched a bunch of it live this morning. It generally didn’t go great for our men and especially Brody. I thought our team was stronger, but by floor they were mostly struggling and making little errors. I’m sure Brody’s falls really got to them all. It will be surprise if we get any men’s gymnastics medal.

I think Steven is definitely our best chance to medal, but we only fell 3 points short of Great Britain, and those points are absolutely out there with High Bar and Floor.

I thought Malone's mishaps alone were the difference between 5th and 3rd place. If he is back to his old self in team finals, I think this team wins bronze. Scores don't carry over so they get to start fresh in two days. He owned it in his interview. I think he hits the reset button and is nails in the finals.

Oh, look. Spike Lee came to watch because there's a black guy and that's all he gives a shite about.

Yeah, every Olympics, politicians and celebrities come out and suddenly show support and try to get some more attention. It's pathetic. They don't actually care about the sport or the athletes, they just want attention. Dawn Staley has been doing the same thing.

The first subdivision for women's qual has started. Ruby Evans and some other Brits had a rough time on bars. Romanians are there. Good to see them on the Olympic stage once again.

Rotation 1: US starts on beam
Jordan Chiles
Score: 13.600
Hezly Rivera, showing some nerves, but no fall, Cecile talking to her a bit to keep her composed I think. She saved herself from a fall and wobbled a lot, hurt her score.
Score: 12.633
Suni Lee, looking a bit nervous as well. I think expectations for this team have created some additional pressure.
Score: 14.033, good score, and it's possible for her to add to that
Simone Biles, she crushes it, very good routine
Score: 14.733, that's a big score

Rotation 1, over

Simone has done a warmup on floor and something happened. She tweaked an ankle or something. Trying to read lips, to no avail.

Rotation 2, Floor
Suni Lee, good routine, minor issues, but solid
Score: 13.100
Jordan Chiles, energy and generally a clutch performer, good job by Jordan
Score: 13.866
Jade Carey, looked good until the last pass and something happened, looked like she was lost in the air. Will hurt her score. She will not make the floor final.
Score: 10.633, feel bad for Jade.
Simone Biles, if Simone is injured, you couldn't tell from that performance, she is hobbling a bit though
Score: 14.600, very good score

Reminder that qualifications are 4 up, 3 scores count, so Jade's score won't count here and normally they would count on her, she's the defending Olympic champ on floor.

Rotation 3, Vault

Team will get a day off before Team Finals, and that is probably the day when Simone's ankle (or whatever) really gets tight. My guess is that she has a high ankle sprain. That does not bode well for the rest of the competition. She might get through today on adrenaline but tomorrow onward will be rough. I hope I'm wrong about this.

Jordan, Jade, Simone planning to do two vaults, I believe

Suni Lee
Score: 14.133, good score
Jordan Chiles
Scores: 14.333, 14.100
Jade Carey
Scores: 14.666, 14.200
Simone Biles, double pike with an ankle injury
Scores: 15.800, 14.800

Rotation 3 is over

wtf just happened there with Biles? Was that score on the uneven bars surprisingly low?
