A dirt bike, two teenagers headed west or northwest.

Interesting story and maybe an insight into teenagers' minds. The thought of riding a dirt bike to Alaska or even to Colorado in the middle of summer and the boy without whatever medicine he needs.

They've been found in Harrogate TN, which is down the mountain from Cumberland Gap. (Which is a neat National Park, if you're ever in the area.)

Missing from a National Park Campground, thought to be with a 15 year old boy riding a blue and white trail bike, thought to be heading for Colorado or Alaska

NEW UPDATE on missing persons search - GOOD NEWS!
Posted 7/30/2021
Two juveniles who went missing the night of Monday, July 26, from Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and eastern Tennessee have been FOUND.
Erica Gamerdinger, age 13, and Keith Griffith, age 15, were found this morning in the local area. They are currently safe, in custody, and in the process of being returned to their families.
Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Rangers worked with the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office, the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Parks, and the Virginia State Police to recover these two children.
We would like to thank our partner law enforcement agencies, residents of local communities, and all those who offered support during this incident.

I’m puzzled. Have they been found? The article did not say so.

Sounds like a couple runaways that didn’t get very far.

That would explain why they are lost because Johnson City is east of the Cumberland Gap.

I conspired with a couple of my cousins to run away to the grand canyon in 3rd grade. We weren't unhappy with life or anything, it was motivated by a picture of the grand canyon that was on my trapper keeper that year. We had to wait until Christmas until my cousin got his new bike, because his old bike never would have made it. I was supposed to start it off and swing by his house to get going, but Christmas brought good stuff and I wanted to stay and play with new toys.

Think about what could have been. Sad!
