re: Yeti is getting roasted on FB comments for cutting ties with the NRA

While crossposting is usually frowned upon in forums I assume it is OK in this case since there are three parallel threads running.
I see a lot of people complaining about the timing.
For argument sake, lets say Yeti's statement is accurate.
The issue really blew up on Saturday, so on a weekend and only two days before they put ut their statement. If it were me in their shoes (again accepting Yeti is being accurate) I would probably assume the NRA misunderstood and did not blatantly throw us under the bus. If that were the case I would try to get in touch with the powers that be in the NRA first thing Monday AM and try to get them to clarify the actual situation, maybe forwarding them the email/letter etc we sent thinking maybe the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. If I was met with a stonewall I would then release the statement they made.
The NRA could have basically made it all better if they had decided they misunderstood and let the world know it, that is a million times better than getting into a point/counterpoint with them. The viral world is fast but if you expect to get an about-face from the NRA within 48 hours it might be worth the gamble.
I think people see and will see what they want to in this situation. I posted in another thread at the beginning on Saturday I bet that it was belt-tightening on Yeti's part. If they were going to make a political statement they would have actually made one. It seems a little far-fetched that this was an anti-2A statement when they didn't make a statement. As I said though, people will believe what they want to believe.

Key phrase. "I think". You are just assuming what you want to think happened.

Given the push and success from anti-gun people to get companies to stop working with the NRA over the past few weeks the timing of Yeti’s decision is what makes people suspicious of their motives.

It was disappointing to see how quickly this board leapt to a conclusion on the basis of an obviously inflammatory statement by a mouthy lobbyist. (Dear Facebook, we're supposed to be mad about something!)
I'll say it again:
I would not let anyone or any organization that I had financially supported for many years dictate how I spent my money.
I would have more respect for YETI if they told the NRA to kick rocks and I would be damn sure my customers knew why.

NRA leadership never told its members to boycott Yeti. Members did that on their own.

Go read what Marion Hammer said.
It was a chickenshit statement(s) and obviously meant to elicit a response against YETI.

How about if Yeti's statement is accurate and their correspondence backs it up and they didn't "cut ties" and only modified their discount program (and not only with the NRA) the NRA could be on the hook for Yeti's demonstrable losses.

I have read it several times. She never told the members to take any type of action.

Seems like a tall hill for Yeti to climb and if they sued the NRA then I imagine their business would fold. A ‘misunderstanding’ is much different than taking legal action against the country’s largest pro-2A organization.

When I read what she said, I was really surprised. I referred to her earlier as their Chief Lobbyist, but she isn't. (Chris Cox holds that position.)
It would be like Jimmie talking shite about Lowe's or Dale Jr talking bad about Bud.

Agree, that would only make it worse. Although, we all know Hammer knew what she was doing when she did it.

That's an agency issue and I will openly admit it was the class I paid the least attention to in all of law school.

Again, assuming Yeti's statement is accurate the biggest hill to climb is the agency issue regarding Hammer. If the impact on their business is near the apocalypse suggested in many places discussing it then they wouldn't have much to lose. Depending on what Hammer (and her firm) is worth they could get WRECKED, if she is sued she will do everything she can to portray herself as an agent of the NRA in this matter.

They don't have to literally say "boycott Yeti". You can use this thread as a good example, just the idea of of Yeti cutting ties with NRA had people deciding to stop buying their products.
People are too damn sensitive.

If it ever got to the point of a lawsuit NRA might be trouble because I know for a fact Yeti changed their terms and programs with several of their 501-C3 partners which would point out NRA wasn't singled out over the gun control debate.

I'll bet you could poll everyone who's ever bought or thought about buying a yeti and 95% of them will say they've never even heard of this incident.
My facebook feed had a shite ton of over hyped baws sharing this crap over the past two days.
I've deleted a whole lot of dumb asses over the past two years and I bet if they were still on my friends list there would be at least 50 who shared some stupid crap about this.

Hahaha, bye bye yankee yeti......

Why does anyone care if their cooler company supports the NRA.
