Brother in law worked for the Port Authority for years out of Belle Chase. Stowaways would jump ship and he would recover the bodies constantly. I’m sure some made it. My grandfather would pick up jumpers in the 1930’s and 40’s. He owned several oyster boats and would put some of them to work. They jumped in the Port Sulphur/Buras area. He also picked up bodies. It can be done but with the way the river looks right now, crossing would be incredibly difficult!
