I mean, they all work in an industry driven by ratings and ticket sales.

So Will Smith did it on behalf of the Oscars for ratings?

Why not do it at the very beginning of the show?

You think it's a good look for Will Smith?

He's getting hammered all over social media. You really think it'll help his career?

What exactly would be the reason for staging this?

And the slow motion
Slow motion confirms it. Smith pulls his slap and is laughing after it

Definetly saw partial nipple. ABC didn't know where to put the camera and just threw up the logo.

These Oscar's deliver.

Hard to believe that’s the same dude that got into character for Ali

It was a movie. You don’t train for a month or two and become a knockout artist

Much as I don’t like Jada, if Rock made a joke about her condition that was really shitty. I’ll give Will a slight reprieve

Going to have to watch the Grammys this year.

Can’t wait for DaBaby to shoot Travis Scott on stage when presenting Hip Hop Album of the Year.

It was staged. First clue is Chris's behavior as Will comes on stage. He doesn't look surprised, puzzled, alarmed, confused or anything one truly would be if someone just all of a sudden came up on stage without invitation or any warning. Especially if someone was walking like Will--hurriedly, purposefully, and menacingly straight toward Chris. Chris doesn't move or dodge out of the way, and he doesn't ask any questions, trying to ascertain the situation. Most people would be asking "Hey, what's going on, what are you doing?"

I disagree. Rock was confused and unsure of Will's intentions and that led to inaction. His uncertainty of what Smith would do paralyzed him from acting.

Second clue is the weak punch. If Will was really outraged enough to want to assault Chris in a blind rage, you can best believe Chris wouldn't still be standing.

The hit wasn't intended to maim or injure, it was done to send a message that you cannot speak that way about my wife and get away with it.

I think Rock needs to lawyer up, and press charges…

He was prepared for that hit and Will Smith was smiling. I still say staged.

Any lay person does that and they are arrested. Sounds like some privilege there.

There’s slow motion close up video out now, Clay Travis has one up. And video with audio.

It was definitely not staged. Take a look. Dude connects with Rock harder than it looks on the far away cam. And rock is visibly shocked and pissed.

Chris should’ve said you may have acted as Ali in a movie but thank god you can’t punch like him.
