This was definitely real from everything I’m seeing and reading. I think everyone was stunned and it’s Will Smith. Security wasn’t going to stop him. There’s likely minimal security to stop actors in the front row from going up there.

I dont think it was staged by the oscars, they are notorious tight asses and this just upstaged the entire show

now if smith and rock did this on their own, either real or staged by them, the oscars will make a statement rebuking them officially

this is not the kind of thing they would allow knowingly, in my opinion

Yeh, so real a person who went on stage and hit the host isn’t even talked to by security….

Yeah, because that’s unprecedented for a big star unpredictably going onto the stage to interrupt an awards presentation:

I didn't know the Oscars were tonight.
I don't know what movies are nominated.

I think the only movie I've seen that was released in the last year was Batman with my teenager.

Really? Oscar ratings have been in the tank.

They aren't now. All these OT posters who 8 hours ago said they'd never watch that shite are now tuned in.

What was the joke?

He said "It's good seeing you, Jada. I'm looking forward to GI Jane 2."

She was not happy about it.

First clue is Chris's behavior as Will comes on stage.

He verbally remarks uh oh and says something else like he's caught off guard

Second clue is the weak punch. If Will was really outraged enough to want to assault Chris in a blind rage, you can best believe Chris wouldn't still be standing.

You give will Smith too much credit

Not staged. Smith was clearly unglued and Jada was a butthurt bitch.

If a 15 year old slapped you like that you would be taken back. Rock didn’t even move off his point

Much as I don’t like Jada, if Rock made a joke about her condition that was really shitty. I’ll give Will a slight reprieve

It was staged. First clue is Chris's behavior as Will comes on stage. He doesn't look surprised, puzzled, alarmed, confused or anything one truly would be if someone just all of a sudden came up on stage without invitation or any warning. Especially if someone was walking like Will--hurriedly, purposefully, and menacingly straight toward Chris. Chris doesn't move or dodge out of the way, and he doesn't ask any questions, trying to ascertain the situation. Most people would be asking "Hey, what's going on, what are you doing?"
This.

Chris even leans into Will.
