You're right in that there appears to have been no "formal demand" of such by the protesters. So I guess if you read the article expecting evidence of a formal demand then the headline and OP's subject are misleading. But, ostensibly, when one protests they are demanding some sort of action/change, right? Otherwise, why protest?
The author's premise is that by protesting the shooting, the protesters are in effect demanding that police in the future should handle the situation a different way...a situation where a guy is coming after the cop with a knife.

Yes... ANytime a person of color is killed by police, even if it is justified will be met with protests.. It's inevitable...

Totally undeniably justifiable police shooting caught on video and there’s a horde of crazy people protesting and angry at the police. What other conclusion can you possibly come to other than these people don’t want police to ever shoot a black guy for any reason?
