As someone who works tangently (yeah I made up that word) close to law enforcement, if you're being threatened with arrest for something like "failure to appear" warrant, tell the callers to go frick themselves, hang up the phone and go about your day.

IF by some random crazy-arse happening IT'S VALID, the actual arrest is an in-and-out booking. Boom, done in a few hours and you're back free.

Tell your loved ones. DO NOT pay thousands or 10's of thousand on thread of 'arrest'.

The most important part: cops NEVER call to tell you they are coming to arrest you.

These calls are always 100% scams.

The police will never call you and say do this or we are coming to arrest you

Anyone who falls for that is an idiot or just has something really shady they are trying to hide

I had a cop call me once because I was parked on a town square and they were clearing it to set up for a special event. I almost didn't answer it, but I'm glad I did because I would have been towed. They just ran my tag through the DMV and got my number on record and called me. So there are some rare occasions a cop will actually call you. This was downtown Lawrenceville GA.

Had this happen once, too, and I was grateful for it. But that's not an arrest, that's a courtesy call prior to ticket and tow. I thanked the cop and moved the car the next day.

There are a LOT of PSAs about this.

I'm surprised there are people who haven't heard it.

Same. I received a call from the Sherriff’s office and was asked if I owned a certain car. I asked why. He said because it had a window knocked out and a radio ripped out. My son had left his car in a strip mall parking lot where many kids left cars s they went somewhere with others.

If your wife, elderly mother, etc., is dumb enough to answer these calls, set her phone to send unknown callers to voicemail so she can’t answer. And train her to call the police station to verify, NOT whatever number is left on the voicemail—the number on their website.

No they don’t. The IRS never initiates contact by phone. If you get a call from the IRS it’s a scam. IRS send mail. If they are calling you, this is only after there is a case opened against you

Um. You DO have to post bond if you FTA. It might be more than you can make. But there is NOT a 10k+ pay-by-phone FTA warrant. That's a straight scam.
