Wife had issues carrying for full term. Numerous failed pregnancies from 10-24 weeks. Worst was water breaking at 24 weeks. Starting seeing a high risk specialist and it was determined that she had what is referred to as an incompetent cervix. This was causing her issues. Next pregnancy in 2007 our doctor did what is called a McDonald stitch which is somewhat common for women with an incompetent cervix. Everything was going great and she was seeing our doctor weekly and we got into week 26 with no issues.

I was at our hunting lease when I got a call from my wife. During a scan the doctor spotted an issue with the baby's kidneys. They were abnormally large. The following week we had another scan and the kidneys were quite large and the baby was diagnosed with Polycystic kidney disease. Fatal disease. We discussed with our doctor and he explained it was fatal and the baby may die prior to birth or it will die right after birth. The basic problem we had is that once the baby was born in the state of Texas we had no say in what would happen. If the state wanted to attempt to keep the baby alive through whatever means necessary we had no say. Doctor said the death would be certain and painful. He recommended we look at alternatives. He put us in touch and gave us a referral for Dr. George Tiller in Wichita Kansas.

We ended up going to meet with Dr. Tiller about 10 days later. We had counseling individually and with others in similar situations in a group setting. One couple had a baby with Spina Bifida... large hole in the spine. Another couple had another issue that was going to be fatal. Yes, I am sure there were plenty of late term abortions going on in other groups where there were no medical issues and they were simply late term abortions. We were in a separate group so I can only relate our experience and those in our group.

We stayed in the area and every morning had to go to the clinic for 3 consecutive days for meds. Everyday driving along a side street going into the clinic with crosses on both sides of the street and lunatics with signs talking, yelling, etc...Lot's of "baby killers" hurled at us and so on. Security on site was pretty strong once you got on the property.

At any rate the abortion took place with a still birth. They cleaned the baby up and brought it out to my wife and I in a privat room to take time to say goodbye and for some type of closure. Not sure what I expected but holding a baby whose head has not firmed is a very strange experience. It was tough for both of us.

Dr. Tiller was fantastic the entire time and really understood what we were going through. There is no doubt in my mind that we did what was best for the baby and for us. Thankfully we had this option.

If you recognize the name Dr. George Tiller it is because he was in the news quite a bit back in 2009 and 2010. Some pro life lunatic shot him in the head at church. Tiller was an usher at his church when he was murdered.

There is another side to abortion that doesn't make the news.

Question about your story: why would the state of Texas try to keep a baby alive with a 100% fatal disease?

How would they even?

Let me introduce you to BigTimer085

He has a remarkably similar story to you including having another couple with spina bifida in the waiting room.

I figured the story was fake.

Even if not I doubt your story seeing as the rate even of newborn death in the most severe cases is 30%. Seems the doctor made a pretty definitive statement even though there is a 70% chance of life. Most cases progress to adulthood.

Once again as I said before despite you posting this story if true sorry for your loss I still dont feel bad about being pro life. I agree with the Texas law.

My cousin had an abortion earlier this year because some of the organs of the fetus were growing outside of it’s body.

Kidney transplant was an option. High fatality rate but nevertheless an option. Point is the state had the power once the baby was born.

So this scenario accounts for 80% or more of all abortions, right?

Abortion laws (even in the most conservative states) have exceptions for cases where the mother or baby are in danger of dying.

The majority of abortions are not for cases like yours and are more out of greed because they were irresponsible

Sorry for your loss

i keep seeing posts like this amd on facebook. I'm pretty sure most of the abortion "bans" and trigger laws including Texas and LA have medical exceptions for babies that are known to have fatal illnesses/conditions. So, nothing changes in these stories.
