Why is wearing pants around the arse still fashionable?

Hemlines go up and down. Lapels and ties get wider, then they get narrower. Bow ties and double-breasted jackets are in, then they are out. Fashion cycles seem to last about 10 years, but not so with the pants around the arse, and drawers showing look. This trend should have faded away years ago. Why is it still a thing?

People without a lot of money buy bigger clothes for the kids to "grow into" or "hand me downs" from older siblings. Eventually it became a trend due to the idolization of teenagers/young adults from younger kids.
Whenever I watch Cops or LivePD those that wear the baggy pants don't last long in a footrace.

I guess the same way gold teeth are fashionable in certain communities. It's ugly, unprofessional, and absolutely horrible for the teeth themselves. The teeth rot underneath them. But that doesn't stop ghetto trash with a couple of 100 dollar bills in their pocket 'upgrading' their grill. It's ridiculously stupid.

I had this exact conversation this weekend. I said I couldn't believe it hasn't gone out of style yet. I guess it never will because it is something every person can afford. If you have pants and underwear then you can do this, don't have to go out and buy anything special.

I've wondered this too. Hood rats have been doing this since at least the mid90s. At some point you'd think the trend would die off. But no, instead you'll even see the old guys still doing it.

Some fashion designer could have/should have capitalized on this look by sewing a 6" or 7" strip of drawers material to the top of some jeans, and let the waistband on the fake drawers actually hold the pants up.
It would still look just as stupid, but it would free up the left hand of the wearer.
