Beaumont could be a nice place if they just put a little effort into cleaning it up and cracking down on the crime. Most of the trash would flee to Houston and you’d have a halfway decent city

There are a few nice areas in Beaumont (west end area/ Thomas Rd.), but most people fled to Lumberton, Sour Lake, Koutze, etc. when they finally desegregated schools in 1983....one of the last school districts to do so. Downtown has always been a crappy area.

So happy I moved out of Beaumont. Took the first chance out of that place. Being single and in mid 20s there was a nightmare.

Way too many environmental issues for everyone to be open to living there.

the whole area needs focus on improving Beaumont's downtown area.

There have been some attempts, but there aren't enough young, upwardly mobile professionals who want to live there to really sustain that. Even the people I know who claim to love living there would rather go out on the boat or go out of town if they want to do something fun.

Larger cities like Houston, or like someone else mentioned BR, needed sustained and repeated efforts for 10-20 years to spark any kind of real Downtown revival after the urban decline of the 70's and 80's. Not sure Beaumont has the population or the collective will to do that.

I travel to Beaumont for work. It has a lot of potential downtown but def has its issues like other places. They have some nice neighborhoods & I really like J. Wilsons & Crown pizza. People there are nice too.

With that being said, I was blown away by how crappy & run down most of Port Arthur is. Blocks & blocks of run down neighborhoods. Very depressing.

Terrible area. We have a plant there and I go a couple of times a year. Most of the guys that work in our plant live out towards Winnie which is west towards Baytown.

I did find a couple of cool places to eat and drink there.

Neches River Wheelhouse in Port Netches and
Tia Juanita's Fish Camp. I enjoyed both. The Wheelhouse getting the nod as the better of the two.

Uneducated. Worst public school system in the state.

Also the area is a concrete swamp.

I’m sure it’s a nice company, but the building listed as their corporate office looks like one of the windowless metal warehouse buildings in the Wooddale Blvd/Tom Dr/Choctaw Dr area in Baton Rouge.

Like if it wasn’t a medical laboratory, they could definitely reuse it to house construction equipment, service fork lifts, or maybe an indoor shooting range.

Reminds me of Shopper’s Choice/BBQ Guys HQ in Baton Rouge, only smaller and not as nice.

Yeah so did Houston, Br, Atlanta and everywhere within 500 miles of New Orleans. We get it. Every surrounding community was a haven prior to Katrina.

I’ve always thought it looked sort of cool - at least from the Interstate. In kind of a ‘50s time warp way.
