Why is Kroger’s so bad in the Houston area

They are a literal joke here. I don’t care if Houston has HEB, Kroger was able to compete with Publix in Tennessee at least. They straight up do not even give a fvck down here.

It doesn’t deserve proper spelling

You should free thyself by worshing your hands of all Kroger's a d goes to the wallmarks instead. Always low prices.

My understanding, which could be completely wrong but its how it was relayed to me, is that HEB is really aggressive when it comes to securing exclusive rights to sell shite in their areas which impacts other stores

I don’t see how they stay in business. HEB is cheaper and more convenient by a mile. .

The one in the Heights has an A+ wine selection but that’s the only redeeming quality. HEB blows them out of the water with produce, fish, meat etc.

They were the shitty chain everywhere I’ve lived.
HEB and Central if you are in Houston.

I always liked the one on Studewood and West Gray. Way less crowded than HEB.

Neither is true. Convenience is determined by location. HEB is not cheaper than anyone “by a mile”

The Kroger Marketplaces aren't too bad. It's their way of trying to compete with HEB.

Same experience. HEB by my house is a huge pain in the arse due to the number of people. No knock on the store itself, it's just always packed. Pricing can easily be beat by Kroger, especially if you have the little member card. Now the quality of HEB stores seems to be much more consistent. The Kroger by my old house was very nice and we'd go there before HEB. The one by the new house doesn't make the cut, so we head to HEB.

Yeah I am 50/50 on where I go. I hate dealing with the crowd at the HEB by my house and the Kroger is good enough for me go there about half the time. If I am not in a rush and don't mind spending extra time at the store I will go to HEB but the HEB at San Felipe has a terrible layout. It inevitable takes me an extra 20 minutes in there because stuff can be so difficult to find.

Right. Near my house is a brand new Kroger and it’s perfectly fine. It’s more spacious than any HEB in my area so it never feels packed even when busy. I hate crowds. HEB definitely has a better bakery.
Randall’s has the only decent French bread of any of them.

The west gray one is the one that inspired this topic. That one blows

In my experience HEB isnt cheaper and the shear number of people you have to deal with is a pain
But their inventory is unmatched and things like their premade meals are the gold standard as far as similar chains are concerned

The HEB brand / exclusive right to Texas-based specialty foods is what HEB does so well
and theyre clean
Kroger has bigger aisles, and if a good part of town
Kroger Marketplace stores will be expanding, everything you like about amazon but with parking

pretty good beer selection too. Better than the Heights HEB for sure.
Other than that there is no reason to not go to HEB

There is a Kroger a few blocks from us that we use to get a thing or two if we forgot but otherwise go to the Heights HEB. Better prices, better selection, and more pleasant workers.
edit: the Kroger pharmacy is awesome though and I use them for that.
