Why do we need to pay taxes?

Not election based, just an overall question.
Seems taxing and chasing down people to pay, making sure they file on time and declare all income is inefficient.
There's no need to incentivize lying about income, hiding money, file dates, working loop holes, etc.
If we need 3 trillion, then print it. If we need 6 trillion, then print that.
Why do people need to give anything?
The government can just print money and devalue everyone's dollar the same.
No need for IRS agents and the whole host of this taxing industry. Forms at libraries, lines at the post office, w-2s and garbage like that.
Just print what we need, and basically siphons the same thing from everybody as it a devalues the dollar a little bit.
Easy

47% percent or more of the people in this country don't pay taxes.

You may want to google the term inflation for some good midnight reading

Then what’s the other money circulating worth?
What’s the difference between it and board game money by your logic

YOU need to pay taxes. I shouldn't be required to deal with the entire maddening process.

We're doing it anyway and we still pay taxes.

Hell why even work, 30% of the population gets away with doing it.

I hope everyone enjoys their $600 bread and circus that I paid for while the government still keeps people from working.

Inflation.
You're describing Modern Monetary Theory, which some fringe economists support. Basically government prints money until high inflation occurs, then they tax people to move money out of the economy. but you wouldn't really need to tax until hyper inflation hits or there is concern about it.
Funny, Bernies economist was a proponent which runs counter to his "tax the rich" populist mantra.
No one knows if this shite works, it's a huge gamble.

Not sure if this is a troll, but the IRS is designed to incentivize self assessment and not lying about income, hiding money, etc. Don't get me wrong I'm no fan of taxes, but to some degree they are a necessary evil. The real problem relates to what actually happens to the funds that are harvested via taxation.

Someone didn’t pay attention in Econ 101.

This thread is where we start the movement where a meaningful amount of people stop paying income taxes

I assumed we were just talking federal taxes. In Louisiana we now pay the 14th highest tax rates in the country for services rated 48th-50th.

Nor did 95% of Congress

Yeh, same. I feel that tax to some degree is necessary to keep things in order, but the problem is the diverting of those funds for the non-specified uses.
@Fallguy, yeh I was referring to Federal, I don't trust Louisiana to spend tax money on the appropriate things at all, and its no surprise we have a high state tax. Maybe one day our State government can turn the tanker around. But unlikely.

Nah. They did. What they paid more attention to is that the majority of this country now receives more in tax revenue than they pay in.

This. This is the entire crux of the tax debate. People that work pay and people that don't, don't pay. When the latter feel that they deserve to live the same way as the former, then they expect the government to tax the workers more to accommodate their desired life style.

We could do everything govt needs to do with 50% spending.
