Why do so many people now think 's means plural?

This has always bothered me. In the past year or so I have seen a huge spike in people making this grammar error of using a possessive 's instead of a normal plural s. For example Tiger Dropping's instead of Tiger Droppings. I guess I was never bothered enough to make a post about it but I just saw an advertisement doing it. Not shocked people can't do basic grammar these days but as a person who has to write a lot this annoys me to no end.

I recently applied for a job where there was an aptitude test at the end where most of it was finding grammar mistakes. It seemed funny but it made sense because there’s a lot of forecast writing for the job and most people are idiots these days.

Autocorrect does this too me all the time's. My life's is way to busy to selfcorrect autocorrect.

It isn't anything new. It's a common grammatical error made my poorly educated people since the beginning of grammar rules.

The new common error I see a lot on the internet is "payed" instead of "paid"

I hate when it's plural possessive. Sometimes I want to type. "Yes that belongs to the Stevenss's"

It started when cursive stopped being taught in school.
Had to teach my kids how to sign their names in addition to the difference between to, two, and too.

You're seeing it more in articles because we increasingly live online.
Back in the late 90s/early 2000s, most people online had a semblance of aptitude.
The issue with the internet now is twofold. Commercialization leading to a consolidation of entertaining websites as well as the most basic idiot able to access the internet with the push of a button.
You're seeing people who would never have their writing published in 1985 - because it's grammatically incorrect or it lacks substance - get out into the world because so many people are online clicking on trash.
