Why do politicians continue to ban events that have no proven nexus with Covid's spread?

For example, the governor of Illinois today entered an order which, among other things, closed museums and movie theaters. Yet there is no consistent, reliable, demonstrable link between the disease and socially distanced, limited capacity museums and movie houses. In fact, recent evidence suggests that the contagion is being propagated primarily by private gatherings. Closing public venues merely seems to increase the likelihood of private functions. I'm tired of being governed by unreason. (I may have just invented that term, but it applies.) I presume politicians do these things in order to protect their reputations, so they can later claim they took every measure possible. Cowardly.

Cripple the local economy, get large federal bail out, then they steal the money.
Just like fema aid for hurricanes, federal relief, money to steal.

It's low hanging fruit. Something they can easily and quickly do to make people think they're doing something without having to actually come up with real solutions.

For the same reason the Nashville mayor and his cronies lied about and covered up the fact that bars and restaurants are not major drivers of spread....they're all slimy pieces of shite.

Women
Soft men
Power hungry politicians.
Too many soft men, they let emotions overcome reason.

How do they expect people to pay their bills with all those closures? There’s no federal unemployment anymore.

The ones that really got me were the closing of state and national parks. You’re outside and quite a distance from other people, which is the whole point behind it, to “get away” and yet they closed them up like that was going to do something. Absurd

Most of the people of a certain political ilk base all their decisions on feeling and emotion. They think that as long as you act with your heart, you can never be wrong.

I keep seeing this, and obviously they are hoping for federal $. But there will never be enough to go around to add up to more than a drop in the bucket compared to the damage caused. Every state, county and city in the US is going to have its hand out. How are they all going to be bailed out?

That one and the bans on fishing and closing boat launches was insane.

Washington gov banned fishing during the major lockdown and closed parks, where people go to be alone.
And the people West of the Cascades loved him for it.

Whitmer has been the most draconian
She banned people from gardening on their own fricking property.

She's trying to become the progressive Iron Lady. It will probably work too.
That's the direction we are headed.
