Why aren’t there more COVID deaths, did the original strain die off?

So in April 2020, the original strain started mass spreading to all states and there was no vaccine, 700k cases of COVID reported with 50k deaths in the US.

In July 2021, they say that only 50% of the population is vaccinated and almost 1.4M cases reported.

If we assume that 50% of those were unvaccinated then you would have a similar to April 2020 700k cases of Unvaccinated people getting Covid.

However only 6,500 people died of Covid in July 2021 vs 50K in April 2020.

If there are similar number of cases, then why aren’t there a similar number of deaths. Is the first strain extinct now?

As viruses mutate, they become more contagious, but less deadly

The most vulnerable population has been largely vaccinated.

Which is why people who still continue the covid response drama and ruin lives don't deserve to breathe.

We just need to reignite discussion of the Ouachita BawPaw in every Rona thread so the mods will whack it.

I would think part of it is that the nursing homes were hit very hard last year(thanks government leaders) and those accounted for a lot of deaths.

And yes, this strain isn't as deadly.

Last spring took out a lot of the most vulnerable population. Not as much low hanging fruit.

With 50% of the population being vaccinated and 10% who already had Covid, the new cases are less severe. Your immune system recognizes the virus and can mount a faster response.

The major variable you are failing to consider is the demographic most likely to die is the one that has the highest percentage of people who are not vaccinated.

Probably because they're not all fat diabetics.

But yeah, our media is mostly just the propaganda dept of the corporate sponsors like big pharma.

Because it is a third world country that isn't likely very concerned with record keeping?

Ivermectin. Those with worms and scabies not succumbing to COVID any more.

OR died already

OR had it already

LTC facility last April had roughly 75 or so residents .. about 95% had covid, about 30 residents died, not all are currently vaccinated by their choice.

Is the shot helping? Sure. But not that population imo at this point.

OH and no one shot or no shot in that facility has been reinfected.

Ah, so in 2018 you would say “man the flu is sure is better now than when I was a kid. The flu use to put you down for a week, now I shake it off in a couple hours”?

I seem to remember people saying the opposite and telling people to get their flu shots because it’s worse than ever.

Different mutations?

I don't know. Maybe you should ask a doctor. 2,000 new cases each day in Mississippi.

I don’t follow here. I would think old people (the demographic most likely to die from Covid) is one of the most vaccinated groups.

Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

Lots more tests being performed now also factors in to the number of ‘cases’
