Why are New Orleans parents better at getting their kids to school than the Northshore?

More than four in 10 Louisiana public school students are classified as truant, a fast-growing problem that plagues low- and high-performing districts alike.
The truancy rate has risen by 22% in the past five years and totaled 40.21% during the 2020-21 school year, according to figures compiled by the state Department of Education. That translates to about 277,000 students statewide.
Truancy means a student has five or more unexcused absences or tardies in one semester, and it sometimes signals the student is in danger of eventually dropping out.
Louisiana Public Schools are optional for students

2 things:
1. Orleans stopped keeping track or caring years ago.
2. That includes tardies and most of St Tammamy is stuck in traffic every morning.

Parents on the northshore have the extra money to take their kids on vacation during the school year to put on social media to “one up” their friends and strangers on their social media

Those percentages are wild. Almost inconceivable

The Northshore is largely an agrarian society. From a young age, many children have to stay home to work the fields and livestock alongside their parents.
Oh. And Slidell.

stacey simply MUST take bayleigh and jacksyn to destin and gatlinburg during the school year

NOLA kids don’t have any excuses to miss school. They’re able to steal any make and model of car they want to get there, with no repercussions.

I don't think the 2020-2021 school year should be used in any measurements. Covid screwed everything up big time.

The Northshore, Laffy, Baton Rouge and Ascension
are so much more basic than NOLA and Jefferson......it's like they all have something to prove whereas as NOLA folk and DTB folk dont give a shite and laugh at all the Northshore, Laffy, Baton Rouge and Ascension wannabe's

This is because of systemic racism, I presume?

I don't believe any of these numbers are accurate.
In St. Bernard, there is no real difference between an absence being tagged as excused or unexcused. The same policies apply for turning in missed work, attending after-school events, etc.
Plenty of times we have turned in dr notes and it gets posted as unexcused. Plenty of times we forget to send a note and it gets posted as excused.

In Orleans, gotta get them there early for the free breakfast and babysitting services.

LOL. No shot. I remember when I was growing up they had to remind parents for weeks when Orleans schools started because they didn’t send their kids until after Labor Day.

There are no Nola public schools anymore. I think they have direct control over TWO magnet schools. The rest of the system is all Charter schools. I believe charter schools are like a third tier between private and public.
Like Kenner Discovery being a good school doesn't help out Kenner's public school grade ratings as it's a charter.

I went to one of the best public schools in GA, there were several female students that were late every fricking day because they were just spoiled brats.

The statewide truancy rate rose from 28% during the 2019-20 school year to 40% in 2020-21, the later being the first full school year amid the pandemic.
It shot up from 33% during the 2016-17 school year to 48% in 2017-18, with the later following historic flooding in the Baton Rouge area.

I guess New Orleans parents are better than St. Tammany.
