Why are nanochips not produced in the US at all?

We as a nation are almost totally dependent on Taiwan and South Korea for a technology invented in the US.
A Texas Instruments engineer leaves TX and goes on to start a company that makes 90% of the world's nano chips. TSMC's chips are needed to fly the F22, F35 but also the SU57 and China's new 5th generation fighters.
While we read stories about US engineers designing 4nm chips and now 2nm chips they are all made by only TSMC or Samsung.
I really think if ANY industry needs government support and capital to start up. It's to restart the dead US chip manufacturers. TI, Intel the ones who used to lead the world in chips.
Now we are one Chinese invasion away from having no chips for our ... everything.

It makes no sense honestly. Something so important should be sourced here. I assume it’s due to cost?

The H and I in CHIPS stand for “Helpful Incentives,” hinting at the main component of the initiative: $52.7 billion in public subsidies.

Some state of the art factories are being build in the USA now.

The Nanos would call it cultural appropriation if we started making their chips.

We have very little rare earth minerals. And only one processor that last I read may or may not be running.

I googled this because I was curious after seeing this thread.
In February, the House passed a bill to boost computer chip production in the US.

But isn't there some natural resources that go into chips that are not available in the US (of course they can be shipped here)? But I guess its a product of the global market, which isn't always the best idea.

We outsourced the manufacturing for chips for the same reason we outsource anything - cost.

free trade caused by labor unions demanding too much money (in the eyes of corporations). same reason Walton bribed lawmakers into helping him get all his crap made in Mexico and Asia.

Credit to conservatives: while they would use use government like leftists though not as much nor for as destructive or nefarious purposes, the populist/libertarian conservatives would use government to protect and foster American industries and workers.
We recently had a president who did just that...

They are building huge microprocessor plants in Arizona, Texas, and Ohio. They were encouraged to be brought on shore during the Trump admin.
No idea if they are nanochips though.

Does Taiwan have those resources or do they import them? Taiwan has a high standard of living. It's not really a sweatshop nation.
The Cosmonaut's rant in Armageddon makes more sense to me now.
Both our nation's top components are dependent on Taiwan.
