Why are hotels still using antiquated corded phones?

Because people would steal the cordless ones. Even if they just took the handset, which would be of no use to them, they'd still steal it. Or maybe not. They don't take TV remotes, do they? Or do they have an infinite supply that they keep on the maids carts and replace after each guest checks out?

It probably has something to do with city codes requiring the guests' ability to dial 911 in case of emergencies.

Oh, I do have one just incase power goes out like Katrina. Land lines still work.

You staying in a hotel or did you mean Motel? Hotels I stay in have cordless in bedrooms and living rooms, but i Guess they figure their clientele won't steal them

Who uses a hotel phone? They also don't walk off as easily.

Try nicer hotels. They have cordless phones.

Some do, some don't. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the decision either.

I do. Order up room service, arrange for a driver, ask a question for the concierge...many reasons.
