How come schools don’t hire more male teachers in elementary and high school? The overwhelming majority of teachers at this level are female.

It appears that school administrators are sexist against males when it comes to hiring. Why wouldn’t they try to encourage more male teachers?

Female teachers having sex with HS kids is ok

Male teachers having sex with HS kids is worse than murder.

I can't figure out if this is satirical making fun of when people complain about the lack of women in STEM, in which case I'm with you.

If a legit question, I direct you to replace the word men with women and replace teachers to STEM. You can't force people to be interested in something they're not into. Many males aren't really interested in spending the day with young children.

Teaching is still dominated by women, but there are much more male teachers in HS than ES.

As the saying goes, those who can....do.
Those who can't.......teach.

No offense to the male teachers on the board.

Doesn't seem to matter with women not applying for STEM jobs but we have to blow up the system to force them in even though they don't want it.

Maybe because the vast, overwhelmingly so, majorty of men find teaching children to be fricking torture?

Just a thought. Coaching is a different animal all together.

You have to have male applicants in order to hire them.

Every male elementary school teacher I know, is a PE teacher. Every male middle school teacher I know, is either a PE, math, or science teacher.

High school is a little more balanced.

Every school principal in America would tell you they really want to hire more male teachers... but there aren't any. And except for coaches and gay drama teachers, most of the male teachers in a few years become administrators.

Not sure - my dad was a teacher - his brothers made fun of him - but they were bums so at least he had a degree and a job

Men don't like to be around children, that's women's work.

I’d say about half my high school teachers were male.

Some of the worst employees are those that entered a field for reasons other than that’s what they were interested in.

Because we have to treat kids with velvet gloves so their feelings don’t get hurt. Boys need to be separated from girls and they need firm discipline. And you don’t pass if you don’t meet passing standards.

If I had more male teachers in my formative years, my grammar may be better

So basically schools are sexist against men and don’t offer them a competitive salary. I don’t think women want male teachers. They might find out that men can stop undisciplined kids from disrupting the class.
