You would have thought that in the year 2023, everyone would have had to take off for today.

I personally have no problem with Martin Luther King Jr Day.

I do not have the day off, but 99% of my clients do, so will be a very very light day of “working”

My company gives a set amount of optional holiday hrs to use for the lesser holidays like today if we want to take off. I am working. Those hrs will be used for my birthday.

It’s MLK day but Mississippi and Alabama also use it to celebrate Robert E. Lee’s birthday.

I am in but the courts are closed and half the staff is not here and no client meetings are scheduled. It is a great day to get actual work done. I'll fart around for a while then get a weeks work done in 5-6 hours then head home and enjoy the lack of traffic.

We get two floating holidays to use for this kind of day if we want to take off. Saving mine for Thanksgiving week. Will be working today.

I wish they would make it a real National Holiday but move it to the day after The Super Bowl. I think the nation would get behind that.

If you work today, you are inherently racist and so is your company. You and your company need to be cancelled

That article seems incredibly misleading. I live in Alabama (and did briefly for another stint a decade ago) and don't think I've ever even heard anyone mention the phrase "robert e Lee" here. The first time I lived here I worked for a government agency and we had the day off for mlk. Now I work for a private company and it has never given this day off in history until this year, which is off for mlk.

I'm guessing there might be some extremely small backwoods town that does it, or perhaps it used to ve commonplace decades ago and he writer just went with it to try to paint Alabama in a bad light

I'm off, but one of my bosses had already scheduled a call with a client so I'll be working for about 30 minutes.
