Too old for that one. Watched the White House burn, though.

I serve on the board of a local Baton Rouge charity that benefits children throughout Baton Rouge, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, and the Food Bank.

I volunteered for the position because I wanted to stop talking about how my city could be better, and start doing things to make it better. And I’ve met so many incredible people since I joined.

We have a lot of fun and many events throughout the year, but at the core it’s ensuring the children of BR in less fortunate situations have better lives.

Edit: I’m also a registered and voting Republican since you perceive helping others as a “liberal” thing.

Start with thinking about problems you want to help alleviate... what speaks to you?

Then evaluate what kind of resources you have to give... time, money, special skills, connections, etc.

I have some organizations that I volunteer with hands-on, others through monetary donations, and others through fundraising committees and board memberships.

There are infinite ways to give back but you have to be honest with them and yourself about what you’re truly prepared to give.

And don’t put that shite on social media unless you’re making an earnest effort to get others to join in with you.

If you can make enough $ to make up for my salary so I can spend my days on my philanthropic pursuits, I’ll make you dinner.

And here I thought it was the ultra-conservatives preaching about community and faith-based charity to step instead of the government.

"There" is a place; its not complicated. "Their" connotes ownership. "They're" means 'they are'.

I used to do the food bank / stew pot thing through the church. Volunteered for Christmas, and pretty much got burned out watching people roll up in Escalades and Suburbans.

To myself: So, they can drive a 60k-75K vehicle, but can't feed themselves? This is a sucker bet.

Give money to St. Jude. Sleep better at night knowing you aren't being scammed or played by a hustler.

I help keep myself off the streets on drugs, taking tax dollars, and stealing shite by being a productive person.

Does that count?

I volunteer at our local Foodbank several shifts a month. They are all so appreciative - makes me feel like we are making a difference.
