Heading to Birmingham from BR. Which interstate would you take? I-55 or I-59? Looks like the same amount of miles/time.

Does one have any advantage over the other?

I-55 leads you to bumpy I-20. Es no bueno. Take boring/shorter I-59.

59/20 less traffic most likely.

Traveled both ways years ago. About 20 miles difference, but I59 keeps you away from Jackson.

I say I59. Enjoy the pine trees.

If you enjoy looking at pine trees, I suggest I 59.

Depends on timing…stay away from Jackson at rush hour. Go one way and come back another for variety.

55 gives you the option of adding an extra day of vacation in Independence or Tickfaw if you have enough time to work them in.

I now go 55 to avoid the shite show of traffic in Covington. When you look at it on your GPS it’s usually pretty close.

Depends on what time of day you come through Covington.

I have no opinion of the Mississippi interstates. But I do know that I-12 is I-10's bitch.

I took 55 to Jackson for variety but they were doing road work east of Jackson around Pearl that added 30 extra minutes.

Enjoy the drive on 59. Birmingham around 459 when it starts to get really hilly. Enjoy the scenery

I vote 59. It has a strip club right off of it. They get completely naked but no alcohol. I think it’s called Outer Limits.

I do the BR-Birmingham several times a year. On the way up it's 59, we always leave about 9am, that put us near Hattiesburg about lunchtime.

On the way home we do 55 so we only get 35 miles of brutal late afternoon I-12, instead of 90 miles. I-20 between Meridian and Jackson is very light traffic.
