1988 seems like the year we woke up with a hangover from the non-stop party that had been the 80s. The movies, music, fashion, TV shows, sports and politics just didn't quite hit home the way they had before. It was still better and fun but you could feel things starting to shift. It was the beginning of the end of the greatest time to be alive.

This is pretty accurate. The first half of the 80s was much better than the second half.

All of 1988 I was at Georgia Tech on graduate school scholarship/research assistantship (end of 1st year and beginning of 2nd year).

It was the true start of my adulthood; 500 miles away from SE Louisiana and REALLY out on my own and responsible for myself; lived with my then-girlfriend and pretty much got some EVERY NIGHT.

We shared a cozy little semi-basement apartment in the toney Ansley Park portion of Atlanta. Had my first real "professional" jobs that year, basically internships with firms. Was kind of a yuppie-in training at that time; wore a coat and tie A LOT. I remember upgrading from Milwaukee's Best to Heineken around then.

Girlfriend's firm (a small company) was pretty well-to-do and generous: they ditched one of their execs and gave her his leased Jag as a 'company car' for a few months till the lease ran out. They had courtside Hawks tickets and we got them quite a bit; saw Jordan and the Bulls, Barkley and the Sixers, lots of others from the second row. The staff and spouses would all go out for dinners a lot, too, at nice restaurants. They also took all the professional staff and spouses skiing one extended weekend, right during the 1988 Calgary Olympics.

But I also remember a lot of low-key good memories back then-- Saturday evening cookouts on the back patio, outdoor concerts or lazy Sunday afternoons on picnic blankets at nearby Piedmont Park, picnics on the Chattahoochee, and getting together with and/or going out with my fellow students for parties and just general stuff.

Good times all around back then, when I was 23.

Was 13 and turned 14 in August. That summer which was a coming of age summer was magical. I started 1986 about 5'4 115 pounds and ended it about 5'9 150 pounds. Got facial hair and physically matured that summer. Introduced to naked, skinny dipping chicks.

ETA: Just saw this said 88 and not 86. In the summer of 88 I was 15 turning 16 in August. It was the summer before my junior year. I went to the Poison/David Lee Roth concert in the Jackson Coliseum on June 25, 1988. Almost the 34th anniversary.

1988? I was in college at UNO and in the Louisiana Army National Guard. I was also in a local rock band in New Orleans and really just trying to figure out what to do with my life.
