I’m old, and this is not how it used to be!

It got cold in Texas (like in 1983 and 1989), and out power grid failed epically! Not from trees falling on power lines, just didn’t make enough electricity. Because of a cold snap that was forecasted!

Water supplies have been out for days, and we are required to boil water! Another system failure.

Grocery stores are OUT of food, like Russia or Venezuela, going out for milk and bread becomes a scavenger hunt taking hours.

This is not how it used to be - nor how it should be! We have been caught unprepared because of poor choices for decades in some cases. Unelected bureaucrats and slimy politicians have said whatever it takes to make an uninformed/uneducated public feel good, but out country is weaker now even though we have the means and technology to be stronger.

I’m able to deal with the inconvenience, that’s not what bothers me. It’s that we are diminishing this great country, and that’s it is completely unnecessary. We should be so much better.

Really a crappy situation for you but it sounds like you aren't handling the inconvenience very well. You know who does handle it well? Preppers. Those people are labeled as crazy but they sure do shine in times like these

Texas has grown a lot since 1983 and 1989. It's actually so successful as a state that it's required significant investments into the infrastructure (including the power grid) to keep up.

Everything is bigger in Texas... Population density and location are a lot different than they were 35-40 years ago. The demands on infrastructure are much greater, yet infrastructure hasn’t been built up at the same pace.

Blame your shitty politicians and property developers, and maybe throw in your urban planners for allowing uncontrolled sprawl. Houston and Dallas are massive concrete jungles that have grown unabated. When calamity hits it’s much bigger and more impactful than if it hit some west Texas wasteland.

Brah most people in Louisiana experience stuff like this yearly. Breadline starts over there. Welcome to communism.

Liberalism has swept the country, and we will eventually become a 3rd world country again.

It’s simple.

Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times.

If you don't have power why are you going to the store for milk?

I’m handling it well. Have been providing shelter, food etc for many beside me. I’m surprised at how many folks have no idea how to get through it, don’t know how to drain water from pipes or why.

It’s just a shame to see it all. We can be so much better. There’s no need for this to be a disaster. We have let it happen.

Good for preppers, and the folks with tools who know how to use them. A smaller and smaller group.

And snow ice cream was great. The whiskey kills mercury though I think.

Yes, but I think there’s been a simultaneous decline in virtue. We aren’t as capable and self reliant as our forefathers. Which is what this outage reveals, more than any lack of capacity or planning.

I’ve got power, you make a bad assumption. But feeding folks takes groceries, still get most of those from the store.

Wouldn’t the food shortage be understandable given that roads are impassable and no deliveries are coming in? This is after all of Texas ran out and panic bought everything on the shelves. Not even
Local cold storage can ship, right? And you’re wondering why you can’t find milk?
