Obviously this thread is intended for St Tammany baws, but posters from Shreveport and Baton Rouge feel free to comment on how Slidell is a drug infested shithole

The parish is going to ram this through regardless of how the people vote, but do you think this will ultimately benefit or hurt the community?

How would it hurt the community?

Is it going to be a silver slipper or belle of Baton Rouge shitty casino or L’Auberge, Golden nugget, Harrah’s, MS Gulf coast type that is trying to be much more than a gambling place but rather an entertainment destination?

if you don't have populations with money to siphon, it's probably not going to be a good thing. i used to argue that LDL in BR was a bad idea b/c they had no appeal. a casino in slidell has less. too close to real casinos on the coast and Harrah's

I still don’t understand why it’s bad.

It'll literally be right on the other side of I10 from my house. Seems like it would be fun to ride over in my boat and go to the casino but dont know if I want all the additional traffic at the oak harbor exit.

It's not just a casino. Actually, the casino portion is small compared to the rest of the development. It is a $300M+ project and the casino would account for a quarter of that.

As far as it passing, I don't know. The mayors of Slidell and the surrounding areas are against it.

Poors will be dumping our tax $ into those one arm bandits, stealing catalytic converters and anything else not ties down to feed the casino monster.

oh ok. so it's a casino

and you still have the same problems. these ventures are only +EV if it's funded by another area's money. if it's siphoning your population's money, then it's a huge net negative. even employees like dealers and management will be heavily staffed from out of town folks.

so basically Slidell and its surrounding areas will donate money to a major corporation and spread its money around within that company, and get a small % back. that isn't a positive for the area.

First off it shouldn’t have cleared the committee in BR bc the deciding vote to advance it to the floor was a guy from norco who’s wife is employed by the casino group as a lobbyist. Talk about a conflict of interest.
Secondly, it seems all the politicians in st Tammany except the sheriffs are for it and counting their money already so I’m sure the OP is correct and it’s gonna happen no matter what.
Lastly, I live in Slidell and it’s changed in the last 3 years and not in a good way. I don’t see how a casino is going to help that especially when I feel like Slidell isn’t getting enough of the pie for having the casino here.

we have the population centers not from our area willing to donate to the local economy

the local economy isn't supporting the casinos in any meaningful %

Gambling inside the USA should be confined to Vegas and Atlantic City.

It's just so trashy.

I think it's a bad idea, but I don't live in Slidell so it's not really my battle. If they want it...go for it.

Isn't Texas considering a possible lift on their gaming ban?
