I used to crowd surf in my younger days. My longest crowd surf was at Lollapalooza in New Orleans during Metallica playing Master of Puppets. It had to be about a minute and a half. I made it all the way to the front where security pulls you down and sends you on your way.

However for those times when I'm not able to buy tickets close enough to the stage, and everyone in my area is just sitting down. I will sit down as well to not block sightlines from people behind me.

This is pretty much me. If it's a smaller venue, I'm usually standing on the fringe towards the front but not in the pit. I'm too old for that now. In my younger days, I would be in there. At larger arena shows, I rarely splurge for floor tickets and will sit, but stand for certain songs. I try not to interfere with anyone else's enjoyment of the show within reason.
