Lighten up.

There are more harmful ways to have fun. I have nothing against it. But I do find the psychology of it interesting. I, too, wonder how it became such a widespread activity.

I will take a guess.

I think this is an outcropping of a couple of generations now that consume things in different patterns from previous generations. The instant availability of things means you can have as much of something as you want. For example, you want to watch Star Wars? You don’t have to wait for it on broadcast TV. Watch it on any device, anytime. As much as you want. Whenever you want. Hell, it can be the only thing you watch. No one will ever tell you that you can’t.

Same thing applies here. Like Halloween? You don’t have to wait for Halloween. Dress up whenever you want, however you want. Hell, dress up 24/7. No one will tell you no. Especially if people find a way to make money from the costumes you buy.

I just see it as another development in the niche economy. Consume more of anything, but less of most things.

People sometimes get sensitive when you frame arguments in generational terms, but I’m really not condemning anyone for their behavior. I’m just stating what I see.

Good post man. You ever see these cats spending big dollars on renaissance festivals? There are guys in my office spending real money on that stuff and traveling all over for it.

It's a way for mediocre to good looking girls/women to take advantage of nerds, especially 25-50 year old nerds.

I've noticed even the pornchicks are doing cosplay, to take the nerds pocketbooks to the woodshed.

So people have hobbies/interests/things that provide them happiness...mmkay.

Let them do that or they may take frustrations out in another way, if you catch my drift. Happy people drive the economy too.

You never had your wife/girlfriend dress up as a sexy teacher, librarian, cop, sexy santas elf or Playboy bunny or in a bustier or plaid skirt with pigtails? Even lingerie is considered Cosplay.
