Will check that out.
The conditions in the hospital deteriorated so fast.
You have to realize..no cleaning, no changing sheets, no air conditioning, dank, humid, oppressively hot, some meds ran out, it was insane. Care was limited. The worst environment possible for someone who was a patient.
People were legitimately suffering. It ripped me apart and I had no connection to these people other than shared experience of the storm.
I was there because of a family member. When all hell broke loose, staff seemingly disappeared and they needed volunteers.
Essentially became an orderly, building engineer, you name it.

That’s the most fricked up story that’s pretty much ever happened in New Orleans.

I was on a film crew documenting search and rescue. Didn’t see much in the way of dead people. Saw a few but they had all been covered with tarps by a previous rescue crew.
Saw a lot of dogs chained or tied to items that had been submerged. The animals were not underwater but were very close to being under and were just trapped in water up to their shoulders. I guess the people who tied them up had no clue just how much water would roll in. It was surreal. Also using an interstate exit ramp as a boat launch was strange and having to duck down in the boat so it could pass under an overpass was pretty surreal.

We weren't that hard hit from the weather in BR but man the influx of people and traffic was something else.
It was taking me 2 hrs to drive 7 miles to work some days. Grocery stores didn't have hardly anything on the shelves. Had to wait in line for an hour to get gas.

Well, that we know about anyway.

How about REALLY disturbing? Everyone there was respectful of the job they had to do, so it was nothing like that. I have just never seen a human body in that state of waterlogged/decomposed and there were 18 wheeler loads of them. Some with nothing more than floodwater/mush inside. The smell, well, there are no words.
ETA: we also had to go into the downtown area to test the fiber for the traffic lights so they could get all that up and running before they officially let people back in. The funk that was inside of those equipment boxes would tell COVID to hold its beer. It was a concentrated mix of everything nasty in NOLA

A friend was a Dr. there and to this day she won't talk about it.. She was called up as a witness for that trial of Dr. Pou.
Pou never went to trial. The grand jury refused the indictment.

I was 17 when we came back to the city after Katrina. We would always throw parties at abandoned houses in Lakeview.
One specific night the kid hosting the party asked me and buddy if we wanted to see a head, which we said "yes, of course". So he brings us down some alleyways to an abandoned houses' pool house. He told us to open up this bloody ice chest so we did.
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a fricking head. It was a black dude with dreads head just sitting in the ice chest.
We hightailed it out of there faster than you could imagine and never looked back.

She Could have been a witness during the grand jury proceedings because some of Pous nurses were called upon.I want trying to call you out or anything just clarifying Pou didn’t actually go to trial because the GJ refused to indict.

No.. I know..I wasn't implying that...Going to trial and just being a witness at the proceedings is a big difference..I would imagine..

I liked the way the gang bangers stole a few hearse from Rhodes Funeral on Washington ave and left them on Claiborne Ave when the water finally got to high to drive. They sat out there probably till November...
Someone stole the forklift from Aqua Marine and used it to pry open the Overhead door at the CVS on Carrolton and Oak. I guess thieves and drug heads get pretty ingenious when it comes to getting what they need...
What was amazing to me was all the different boats that were scattered all over the city. Someone "commandeered" the gondola that was used in City Park. It sat under the Causeway overpass at Airline for about a month. Looking back, I wish I would've taken more pics, especially all the boats... Would've make a nice book...
