What would you do if the grid went down.

How long could you survive without power? I am talking about an extended period of time. I heard some experts say, that most people in big cities would die within 2 weeks. Does this sound logical?

Invite the neighbors over, but first make a roux.

Way ahead of them...live in a small city.
Very small actually...with water...and wildlife.
I'll be around much longer than 2 weeks.

Depends on what caused the grid to go down. If it's emp, I'm not trying to stick around florida... but i could survive a good thinning hiding out locally.

Assuming I could defend myself, I could go a while. Family has a decent stockpile of non-perishable food. Plenty of access to a stocked pond and numerous other fishing spots. Have water filtering capabilities. Neighbor has ample amount of chickens and rabbits.
My initial plan was to kill them and take their food supply. Have since changed that plan. He is a great hunter and also has a strong work ethic. We have agreed to watch out for each others family and realize we are stronger in numbers.

I have a bug out option to over 500 acres of property on a dead end road with all good folks on the road. My place has a fresh water well. I have enough battery and solar to be comfortable.

Yes. Most people in big cities have no idea how to feed themselves of the grocery stores and restaurants don’t have food. We live in a country where stores would be empty in a matter of days and without power food will spoil. Also without power water goes away pretty quickly.

Grab my go bag, throw the tent and camping gear in the truck and get the hell out of the city. If I can make it to the mountains so much the better. Then I fall back on skills I’ve learned over a lifetime and survive.

Everyone always says they have a place to bug out and escape and gather food. Thousands of other people have those same spots in mind.

One problem with these thousands of other people. Not many are very well armed, know shite about outdoor survival, can navigate outside city blocks without their gps.

Enjoy the silence and move to my camp in the country.

Food wouldn’t be the issue, you can survive with no food for much longer than that, especially obese people. So, the theory must be a water shortage, if you live in a city, it sounds like you just need to have the ability to have clean drinkable water and you will last long enough to have an endless supply of food in about 2 to 3 weeks.

I think what everyone totally underestimates is that in a time of total chaos, the bad people or even leaning bad people will do unspeakable things to survive.
All the keyboard warriors and preppers aren’t mentally prepared or even capable of what it would come to if our society descended into an even month long scenario like this.
Everyone will keep their cool for about a week or 2. By week 3, people will be really worried. By week 4, some will have totally given up. By week 6, all hell breaks loose.
I, for one, hope we never ever have to find out who the badasses really are. Because it would be hell.

It helps to live in one of the least populated state in the nation, next two more of the least populated states in the nation...
But I get your point.
