What should I know about cats

The wife convinced to have one. He's a male kitten and we are usually dog lovers. The kitten seems okay so far....

Don’t let him isolate. When you’re home, close all the other rooms off and force him to spend time with you. It creates a very social cat and not one that hides all the time.

You can make a dog into a good dog, a decent dog, or a bad dog - but a cat is going to be whatever the frick it's going to be. Nothing you can do about it.

Get him a scratching post, STAT. Manipulate his claws onto the post and teach him that it’s what he can claw. Ours has never once scratched up furniture.

Best advice is to be very sweet and affectionate with him while he's still a kitten. Better chance of having a good cat later.

Our cat is the nicest, warm cat we’ve ever had. Got him as a rescue and was able to pick him out the litter. Taught him to use the bathroom outdoors and put a cat door from my kitchen into the garage. Always comes in at night and loves to snuggle.
They are very independent and not going to get them to do anything they don’t want to do.
Only bad thing is ours loves to bring in dead and alive animals. Hopeful ll he grows out of that soon.

Get him something to scratch on. My cat comes out about 10 minutes a day, jumps up on you to pet her then takes off like you stuck a firecracker up her arse for no reason.
