Will travel ball become even more ridiculous with parents promoting there children for endorsements? How big of a trickle down affect will this have on kids today and years to come? No doubt athletes and there families will be spending a ton hoping for it to be returned in high school and college.

It’ll be hard for one Jayden to stand out from another.

I have no idea, but it damn sure won't make tuition go down for academic students.

I think you'll see most states do what Texas did and use the legislature to prohibit it as much as possible.

Karbyn will finally free his ole man from the boiler room at the local plant once Relief Windows endorses him at Southeastern.

First of all, it isn't allowed in HS. A top recruit for OSU is actually graduating HS a year early so that he can go to college in order to sign a NIL contract. I don't think he will be able to play until the following year. But shoes companies, sports card & memorabilia companies, etc sign these kids early in hopes one of two of them make it big to collect on their return.

In other words, instead of waiting until a player becomes a superstar and has a higher value, they sign.. 40-50 players (which is less than what it cost to sign a superstar) and if one or two of those kids they sign goes pro and becomes popular, then they already have that player signed for cheaper.

You don't know what you are talking about.

Things have already changed drastically from late Gen X parents to our kids. My youngest (incoming 9th grader) just finished his summer long OTAs before next week's "dead period". I hung around to observe the last half of tonight's practice and they are doing stuff that was just starting in D1 when I was playing. Even the schedule is similar with 6am lifting and practice for 3 hours in the afternoon.

One of the big changes was starting a social media presence for him the day he concluded middle school athletics. Thankfully our area has a lot of recruitment going on so there is a template...especially when it comes to making yourself known nationwide. Getting that going at least builds towards a potential NIL deal.

So to tie the 2 things together, I'd say this is actually good for athletes who will play on the next level. It's a good thing for those who don't because it prepares them for the realities of adult life today and the future.

ETA: OK's QB is signing at The National convention this weekend and charging just as much ($150) as a few of the first ballot NFL HOF guys. He's being advertised a 'the 2021 Heisman favorite'.

Game changer

I’m already talking to Johnny’s pizza for an NIL deal for little Billjaxxamin. He’s going to be the face of the birthday/post LLWS party campaign. They came in and tried to low ball me with 2 coupons for free cheese sticks, but I know I can get them up to 4 and a medium pepperoni.

I wish there were stats available on how many kids who play travel ball go on to play HS, college and so on.

This was a while back, but I know a dude who got all caught up in travel ball. In fact, he sent his kid to Blake Dean for batting practice, I am not sure what age kids start travel ball, but his son played from the time he was old enough until the summer before his freshman year in HS.

I can't imagine the amount of money he spent. Between the cost each year of playing, the cost of traveling, buying equipment, baseball camps and private lessons.. The kid tried out for the HS team.. And didn't make it.

Im not sure if this is true, but someone told me the kid was tired of playing and didn't do well at tryouts on purpose

In 2011, I am at Baton Rouge Traction baseball complex watching my good friend of The Woodlands, TX team playing in 11yo baseball tourney.

He points to 3rd baseman (11yo). Says team has paid that kid to join his team for the summer.

This general kind of $ chit is deep into sports today, and it has been for a while.

My recommendation: keep your kids' education highest priority and the athletic path a bonus to this path. These are mutually exclusive.

My kids are academics, not athletes. The oldest one is cruising to a full ride, so this probably won't affect her much. Will have to wait and see with the other two. They're not even in middle school yet.

We have pretty hefty college accounts for each of them though so I'm sure it'll be fine.

ETA: I doubt I'll ever be doing any extra travel outside of whatever they have to do for school clubs/teams.

We just got the sticker shock of high school football. Back in the day it was a $10 or $15 fee and that was it...they provided everything but the jock. This summer alone we spent $1000 just to get him the gear he needed (helmet included.) To get around state athletic rules we even had to pay for a "voluntary" camp so they could practice in shells this week. Seeing how far this has trickled down from above makes this NIL stuff at least understandable. (Just wish it was around 25 years ago.)
