Indeed.

Don't waste your time if you're not going to tailor your resume to the specific job requirements, get good references and write a cover letter.

Many groups out there that do this for people that can't do it for themselves making it much harder to be noticed initially. Fortunately, many recruiters can spot this as long as you've got actual accomplishments listed.

I’m a business owner in a small town, so I like to use indeed because a wide range of different skill sets will apply, but I have poached high quality talent from the Lowe’s cabinet department before. So I guess in person or word of mouth is still the best.

There are organizations and companies out there that essentially put words in people's mouth for them to make them stand out more to employers. Sometimes making moot accomplishments seem more relevant, requiring people with more experience to actually ensure that they are doing a good job of differentiating themselves.

What part of that confuses you?

What part of the process specifically is archaic and what would you suggest they do to upend it?

In 2019 all I could read were articles about soft skills were the leading factor of an engineers success. I was in upstream oil and gas production sales and managed the application engineering team. I could work with engineers, sales, quality, and VP level management.

2020 happens and my industry was destroyed and 10 years in I want to change industries. I’m applying to other jobs requiring 3-5 years experience and and I can’t even sniff an interview because I don’t have industry experience and hard skills.

Hiring managers are just looking at one role without seeing capable growth and potential.

I'm in an organization that has thousands of positions, and have been promoted three times internally. The company is geographically locked.

I'm interested in leaving California, so that's why I'm looking for something to access organizations abroad.

I'd recommend picking target destination first then sifting through jobs to find which one you're interested in.

Texas is a good place to start if you have a narrow timeline.

It's really difficult to find a magic job without location filters because so many recruiters will use labels that you'd use just to get your attention.

Indeed used to be legit as frick.. Then it went to shite. Someone I know who works in HR told me indeed takes adds off of their website and post them and they will have jobs listed that has been filled months ago.. And people will call them about it.

Honestly, the best route to go is to go to companies sites. Go to the chamber of commerce website for wherever it is you are looking to work and look at all the companies and visit their website and check the job listings. If they don't have any listed, send them a message/email with your resume informing them you are looking for a job. And that you attached your resume in case you have any skills they can use.

So you want a job in a new industry for which you have zero experience and zero skills, and you think the system Is the problem?

Are you willing to take a position that’s entry level to get some experience?

I’m a mechanical engineer. Any entry level job right now is a new graduate hire. There are transferable skills from any industry that hiring managers just don’t look or care about right now.

I feel your pain.’ I too had to start over. It ain’t easy, but the system isn’t broke. The hiring managers take their orders from the supervisors who need the employees. If you have any connections or a network, use them all you can. You have to know someone who can offer a recommendation?

That’s how I got my new job. Still involved in O&G, but not solely.

As much as I think you’re a shite poster, I believe this to be accurate. It explains a lot of what I’ve seen. Lots of jobs listed, then I go to apply and it says they’ve been filled. 6 weeks later, I see the job posted again.

I see the same thing happening on Linked In. Linked In pisses me off when their ‘promoted’ job listing being pushed so hard. You have to filter through all those because they r been heavily applied for. I do get messages from recruiters quite often from Linked In, but hey tend to disappear after promising they have a dozen places they could place me, then ghost me.

Searching for a new job is extremely frustrating.

I’m currently job hunting in a state that’s across the country and haven’t had too much luck. I know a couple of people that live there that are keeping on the lookout but that’s about it as far as networking. Any advice?
